Sometimes you just don't have the energy

I just packed these up and took them to Goodwill this morning. They are tools of years gone by and would have made an interesting display if mounted in a shadow box. I just don't have the energy to build such a box these days.

I know how you feel, sometimes it is just time to let things go because one no longer has the energy or the time to do something different with them. Man, how tools have changed over the years.

Yeah, but you can still do amazing things with a tool like that Stanley 55 molding plane if it can be cleaned up and given some sharp blades (which were still available from Record in England, last I looked.) If it's recoverable/restorable, I hope whoever gets it appreciates what it is, as they were not very common, even in their heyday.

Beautiful shot. It has been years since I've seen a draw knife, I think I would have kept the plane

At one time, they were prized possessions, now they are reduced to a passing curiosity.

I have my grandfather’s Stanley 45 plane. It’s in great shape, about 20 different blades, original metal box, complete and in great shape. That’s what they used in the days before routers to make window sashes, tongue and groove boards and so on. Mine’s probably 100 years old and they cost a carpenter a fortune back then.

I still use some of those tools and though old, they still do a great job.

Wow. I wish I had that hand plane.
I’m a collector of all types of hand and
block planes. Old tools are actually very
fascinating.

WOW I wish I had all of them they look restorable and would be great when the power goes out to continue the project and not lose any time.

I like to use some of my grandfather’s hand tool when building something for my kids. Something about using the same tools my grandfather and my father did. Building something for the fourth generation seems to add some continuity to one’s family.

If I had to use tools like that I wouldn't have the energy either and as for the power outage problem I would crank up my 4k champion hybrid inverter generator or just use my battery operated ridgid power tools.
