Either way it is a great shot, Jim.

I'd remove them and then tell the grandkids that you took the shot in 1880.

They’re distracting to you but not to me and we’re both right👍

....of course I could have removed the power lines. But I chose not to.

And I don't even have a good, solid, compelling, high-falutin' aesthetic argument for having made the choice.

Or maybe I do, but just haven't come up with a way to describe it quite yet.

It's your choice after all! Remove them and your lights will go out! LOL

For those who work in Photoshop a little trick I learned a few years ago is a quick and easy way to remove those pesky powerlines. For those interested, here you go:
with the healing brush click on one end of the wire to be removed. Then move the cursor to the other end on the wire run, hold the ctrl button down while clicking on the other end the wire and voila, the whole wire gets deleted. Only use a brush that's big enough to cover the wire, so, not too big. Sometimes a little further cleanup is needed, but it's quick, and gets the job done.

Well, the wagon is from a by-gone era. The wires are from the present era. I think I would remove the wires.

I photograph to please myself. Very rarely do I try to document a place or time. If the photo is pleasing to me, I’m happy. Power lines rarely please me.
I’ve traveled around the world and love to photograph people. I doubt that many of the subjects would be pleased with my final image, although occasionally, when asked, I email copies. That’s why I don’t shoot family and friends.

Trust me, Ken; I did think about removing them, and while there may arguably be reasons for doing so, in the end I still chose not to. <While I've been thinking of how to write this reply, the comment has already --in effect-- been made that removing power lines (or whatever) is difficult, and while, yes, removing them may take a few minutes, there's nothing especially difficult about doing so.> That choice/decision was made during the time I otherwise removed, modified or altered a number of other 'things' I did deem remove-worthy distractions. And to illustrate that, compare the shot I posted with the (obviously rasterized and reduced, but otherwise untouched) raw (or in this case, a Fuji RAF) file, and you --and anyone else who'd care to comment-- will see the changes and modifications I ultimately chose to make.

What I find particularly interesting, though, is that you mention the lines as being a "distraction". While it's not my intent to quibble on about --or necessarily question-- what is or what is not a 'distraction' in an image, what I consider to be 'the more important consideration' is the decision-making process itself, and ultimately, the end product that results.
Trust me, Ken; I did think about removing them, an... (show quote)

After all of this, I looked at your first image and noticed it didn’t bother you a whit to crop out the shadow at the bottom of the image, so obviously you didn’t think they were worth the bother in this case. I wouldn’t be surprised if you just decided this one wasn’t one of your personal favorites. Good talk thanks; Cany. (OBTW, Does your spell checker call you “Candy?”😉

It also didn't bother me to add in some snow as a way to eliminate distracting bits of road and brush just to the left of the front of the wagon. Likewise, I removed a roofed structure further off into the distance on the left. In effect, there were a number of competing elements --or as those who are easily distracted usually call them, 'distractions'-- that I removed or covered over in one way or another.

I never need to type 'Cany' --Oh! Wait! I just DID! And nothing untoward happened! Yea, me!-- I typically just use one form or another of the first person 'I', so I don't know first-hand whether, or if, spell check would replace that with something else. There was a UHHer, however, a few months ago, who PM'ed me to say that whenever he tried to type in 'Cany', his spell check always wanted to change 'Cany' into 'God-Emperor of the Known Universe', and he wondered if GEotKU was factual or not. Not wanting to give too much information away, I replied by writing, "HEY! LOOK! A SQUIRREL!!!!" and got him distracted.

I would take them out, but it is a personal decision. I don't think that it makes a great difference, but to me, it doesn't look right.
Good capture, with or without
