I have a bunch of insulated water bottle holders/with belt loops. They work for everything from lenses general tote space for batteries, memory cards, candy bars (don't tell!), and yes water bottles. They come pretty small, so try one inside the mesh, they'll certainly contain the pod legs.

My backpack does not have a dedicated tripod holder. I've since downsized considerably to a new travel tripod. The only way to carry it is to place the foot end down into one of the side mesh pockets on the side and secure with the included strap lock on the top part. Is there anything I could put into the mesh pocket to prevent the tripod feet from snagging and tearing the mesh itself. I've done a lot of research but have not seen any products or suggestions on what might work. I appreciate in advance any suggestions the UHH community might have.

A photo of your set up would help. But, since it's a backpack, strap the tripod to the shoulder strap where it attached to the pack, and somewhere at the bottom with Velcro. The pocket you're using is not strong enough to support the tripod for long.

Cut the top off an appropriate sized water bottle and slide it into the mesh pocket.

I have a lightweight tripod which came with a soft carrying case. I just place the strap to the inside of my backpack, with the main case on the outside, then put the backpack on. Works like a charm, and doesn't cause any discomfort or balance problems since it is centered.

I haven't tried this, but I saw a guy carrying his that way and he had a small piece of leather in the bottom of the pocket that sort of made a heavier bottom to support the tripod. I think if I were to try this, I'd try to sew it in so that it wouldn't move around.

My first thought, too. Maybe see the leather like a cup that fits inside the mesh. Thinking about it myself now that I have read it here.

Use that lone argyle sock that the clothes dryer didn't lose.

Sounds doable...thanks.

Cut a plastic cup to fit the mesh pocket. If you get one the correct size in will most likely stay put in the mesh pocket

Think of using a belt instead of your backpack for---tripos, unipods, or gunstock braces. I find belt carry handier that braces flopping on a backpack.----------------

I have such tripod bags for car travel from B&H-(like 42in size)--but hardly for small 18in hiking tripods when one carries a ten pound backpack.------------------

I second the idea mentioned earlier of using a beer can koozie, full can size, not the mini-size. I've used them to cushion lenses.

The two Manfrotto backpacks I have, have zipper side pouches not deep enough for a tripod as they extend the distance break between the upper and lower main zippered compartments. And across the inside is a firm strapping one could pack light clothes wear and still put the pack on and a full buckled extra strap on the left-hand side one could easily carry a tripod with---buckled through the legs. B&H sold these in the past year.

I generally keep old socks for just such a situation(ie: "use") as this. . .If one doesn't seem adequate; use the other one also!

Get your Google out and search RC battery strap. Sew these anywhere you want, like the bottom, they won't come loose. home depot might have Velcro straps too
