Dont expect ANY consensus here in UHH, LOL.
Everyone will just trumpet their favorite brand and/or the brand they are loyal owners of.
Here is my two cents, and I expect pushback from fanboys of different brands, no problem.
I was a longtime Nikon, Canon and Leica pro user for nearly five decades as a professional photojournalist shooting all subjects around the world including war coverage, then I moved over to Sony mirrorless back In January 2017 and have no regrets. I am also a longtime Professor of Photographer at a state university, having taught hundreds of students in my courses in Photojournalism, Digital Photography, and yes even 35mm B&W film photography. I have both my BFA Degree and Master's Degree in Photography.
Back in 2017, Sony was the ONLY maker with fullframe mirrorless cameras. Sony's A7III success helped push Nikon and Canon into coming out with their own fullframe mirrorless cameras.
IMHO as much as Canon and Nikon have gotten better with their fullframe mirrorless releases, Sony still has the more extensive and proven fullframe mirrorless system and lineup by far.
The Top News Services in the world have all gone to mirrorless cameras in the past 24 months for their staff photographers and staff videographers worldwide.
Associated Press, UK Press, Canadian Press, all Gannett Media including USA Today have gone exclusively to Sony fullframe mirrorless for their staff photographers and staff videographers worldwide. They are using Sony A1, A9II, A7RIVa, A7RV, A7IV, A7SIII, FX3, FX6.
AFP (Agence France Presse) helped develop and test the Nikon Z9 and they use the Z9 for their staffers worldwide.

The Sony E-mount is the most widely produced and most widely used mirrorless lens mount in the world. There are over 200 native E-mount mirrorless-designed lenses from Sony, Sigma, Tamron, Samyang/Rokinon, Tokina, Zeiss, Viltrox, Yongnuo, Meike and others.
Canon has chosen to prohibit third-party lens makers from making any more RF-mount lenses. Already Canon mirrorless sales are down, as photographers around the world react to this restrictive move by Canon. I know this to be more than speculation as I administrate and moderate several Facebook photography groups and many folks around the world have said they have moved away from Canon R cameras for that reasons. Even Canon stalwart youtube reviewers now admit Canon's move is hurting their R series sales.
IMHO, sometimes when you get so big and successful like Canon ,you can lose sight of how best to grow your base.
Nikon has chosen like Sony to open up its Z-mount to Tamron and other third-party lens makers allowing its users to have more affordable and extensive Z-mount lens choices.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sony_E-mount_lenseshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_third-party_Sony_E-mount_lensesI have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9, and currently own Sony A7RIV, A1, A7SIII . i currently have 13 native E-mount lenses covering 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma and Tamron. i have no personal desire to return to Canon or Canon mirrorless for my professional or personal use.
Use what brand you prefer and be happy. I am more than happy with my Sony gear. Canon sells more total cameras worldwide but half those sales are its DSLRs and compact camera sales. Sony sells no DSLRs. As for Mirrorless, Sony is #1 in the world in both total mirrorless sales and is #1 in fullframe camera sales (DSLR or mirrorless). Sony sells fullframe mirrorless models, A7, A7II, A7S, A7SII, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9, A9II, A7C, A7SIII, A7RIVa, A7IV, A7RV, FX3.
Cheers and best to you.
