A few more from the Amboseli Maasai. The kids were so shy. They were quite interested in the goat feast, but did not approach nor did I see them eat any. They were also quite interested in me taking their photo, but were shy about it.

Wow! Colorful and exotic.

Thanks for sharing.

Excellent series - every shot is on the money! Do you ever submit travelogues for possible publication? If not, you may wish to consider it. The image quality and location is certainly there.

Just have fun and try something new or practice with birds or something in the backyard! In 2019 I started wildlife and went to the zoo to practice and learn! Then watched videos and just winged it from there!!!
I’m not a purest in photography only taking photos in morning end evening light like many pros. But the morning or evening light does add something special. The photo below would not be nearly as interesting if it was taken mid day. Just have fun!

A great human interest series, and I truly like the vulture.

Vultures are cool birds for sure. Just don’t have the beauty factor…maybe in an odd way they actually do!

Thank you so much for posting these, especially the ones of the children. As a retired pediatricain I have a great interest in children around the world and was glad to see these look happy and healthy. It has been a long time and my memory may be faulty but I have a recollection that for a Masai boy to achieve adulthood he had to kill a lion solo with a speer. Or perhaps that was some other tribe. Did you hear anything like that? I think it is a rich cultire with many traditions. Thanks again.

The photographs are beautiful. I was in Kenya 32 years ago and was told that the Masai do not like to be photographed or even visited by tourists and other groups posed as Masai. No idea if this is still true. All the tribes are adept at adapting their clothing. I saw women in the cities wearing western dress but with a kanga tied over it like a sarong, or a kanga used as a headwrap or tote bag. In Mombassa I saw a women wearing a kanga from previous years wrapped over her western dress (they are made in popular colors..different from one year to the next) that was in a color combination much nicer than the new ones in the markets and I bought it off her on the spot!

You are correct about the lion. They did stop the tradition about 15 or so years ago. Not because of the danger, but the lions being killed. There is another Maasai tradition involving the circumcising of the boy around the age of 12. It was interesting hearing a Maasai tell the story. I’m sure you can find it if you Google it. I ask, so did you make your family proud and of course they said yes! My husband hates it when I tell the story….
I guess even that tradition is slowly going away and more are having it done in a hospital with pain meds…but not all!
P.S. my Maasai guide showed us his scar on his leg from a lion he was chasing away from his fathers cows.
