I have been notified that Costco is closing down their photo business this month. A shame there quality and service was pretty good.
They say I should transfer my account to Shutterfly and I will get 51% off of every order. Has anyone here done this yet and if so do you have any comments? Can my customers order directly from Shutterfly and pay full price so I can get the 51% sent to me?

Thanks

I just went through the process of transferring my Costco photos and account details to Shutterfly. They say it will take 24 to 48 hours...will keep you posted of progress.

I've found the Shutterfly products to be good, just never liked the price, especially compared to Costco. If they really are giving us 51% plus free shipping on orders over $49, I guess that just might work for me.

My local Costco warehouse stopped printing years ago, so I just signed up for this latest offer. I haven't ordered anything yet.

Simply a Costco Membership benefit discount. They paired with Shutterfly.

I've been with Costco Photo for a few years now and have had very few complaints on their work or quality. Most of my prints have been on metal and I have sold several. I also have a Photo Book being printed so I called Shutterfly to see how their books would compare and all I get is the "Political" type response that "Our books are much better and with the 51% discount, you can't go wrong".

Costco has an office here in the Phoenix area but they would NOT let me come in and see, for myself, how the books would compare. Obviously, I was not impressed with our discussion. I put a lot of time into the design and layout of the book and it looks as though I'm going to have to repeat all of my efforts, no matter who I end up going with.

If anyone has had previous dealings with Shutterfly, I would appreciate reading your response.

I have used Shutterfly on numerous occasions. Having made over a dozen books with them, I can say I have learned through my own experiences what options I like that they offer. I wait for sales and have not been disappointed. I now upscale a little as I give the books as gifts most of the time.

Thanks for the reply Baysitter11, I'm in the process right now of transferring my Costco Photo account to Shutterfly. Once completed, I plan to order a single book to see how they compare, both in cost and quality..... got my fingers crossed.

I will be interested to gain your insights, Jack. My photos transferred overnight, so that worked seamlessly. I usually create books for us and our traveling companions when we return from a cruise. Our next one is coming up the end of this month, so February will be my first test. Poking around on the website showed me there are lots more options than the last time I used them for a book.

Same. No problem with the transfer, though.

You might want to read the previous post on this by me. Lots of info about alternative sites and pricing. Biggest issue is Costco had free shipping. Shutterfly shipping requirements of $49 order is a killer for me. Other pro sites offer free shipping at $15 or $16 or a flat fee of $10 for an order regardless of the quantity of prints.

How do you transfer your stuff from Costco to Shutter? I have not received any directions or info on how to do that. I halve to do that and find the Shutterfly site to be very slow and non responsive.

Absolutely the worst change Costco has ever made. They had great services with excellent delivery options all at affordable cost.
Shutterfly for me is not a viable option. After many years and thousands of prints done by Costco, I will be returning my print business to Bay Photo Lab. Consequently, my pricing will increase accordingly.
Thank you Costco, for a good run.

I had an email on Wednesday with information about transferring my Costco files to Shutterfly. I did the steps last night and this morning logged into Shutterfly and a quick look shows my files are there.

In 2022 I started a small book at Costco and then the same book at Shutterfly. The app looked identical, so I suspect that Costco had already transferred its app to Shutterfly or adopted Shutterfly's book app in advance of this change.

I have had good results with both in the past. I just completed a book of photos from my float trip through the Grand Canyon and used Blurb. I am very satisfied with the output from blurb.
