I agree - - thanks for the 'step back' in time. In the early '60s in the Army, I had the job of repairing
some of the original IBM and UNIVAC computers(?). That was back when the programing was done on
'IBM cards' with holes punched in them; and there were card punchers, verifiers, sorters, printers, etc.
During my assignment to Vietnam ('67-'68), I bounced around to the HQs of various units (96th Inf Div,
196th Inf Bde, +) to help keep their computer rooms running. Now-a-days, when I pull up some of my
photos from those days, that is what tends to amaze me the most at how life has changed . . .
RS, thanks for reminding me how the old days were. How many people have heard of Univac? I developed my interest in computers while in Thailand maintaining communications eqmt. If the Air Force had been willing to send me to Computer school I was willing to re-inlist but since the wouldn't I went to work for Control Data instead and the rest is history.
