All fantastic shots

With all those nice cranes etc., around to act as lightning conductors, there was ZERO chance of you getting struck. I wouldn't leave the lights etc. out in the rain though :)

I know about lightning, high-potential grounds, lightning rods, conductivity, and all that cool technical stuff. My lovely wife, however, goes by Murphy's Law! Being married to me for 53 years gives her good reason!

All the lights are covered with polyethylene tarps! Big plastic bags! Thanks for the advice!

I once saw a lightning strike from 100-150’ away. The shaft was cylindrical and had a surface reminiscent of the mall fountains with the water running down acrylic rods. The shaft was about 3 feet in diameter and where it contacted the ground it was shaped just like a big inner tube about 6 feet across and 2-3 feet tall.

I was at an small airport and standing at a tall chain link fence and about 5 feet away from two tall metal flagpoles. After I regained my vision, I got the hell out of there. And don’t believe that stuff about lightning striking the tallest object. It chose to blow a hole in the asphalt runway rather than strike a 10’ metal fence or metal flagpoles.

Don't worry about getting struck by lightning, it doesn't hurt when the pain goes away.

It jogged my memory of a lightning strike I saw many years ago. The lightning came out of a cloud sideways of the cloud, about my guesstimate of 10 miles, then turned down to the ground. The sideways travel was in a blue sky, cloudless portion of the sky! Made a believer out of me about lightning striking out of a blue sky! Stay indoors, and safe when even kinda close!

My parents lived in the mountains and across the road was a high tower line, we used to watch the 'rolling lighting' go down the wires! Scary, but cool!!

After a very bad weather advisory and tornado-like touchdowns, there was an area-wide power failure due to multiple damaged electrical lines. We had no power at my home or the studio for three days- "poor me" I complained. So, I was out on my little balcony cooking a hamburger with (believe it or not a propane torch- no eclectic stove) in the rain when I noticed the Hydro-Electric crew doig a repair. Hydro-One is one of my industrial clients so I grabbed my camera and made some rapid sequence of shots at ISO 3200 in "P" mode! The guy in the bucket yelled "powere up" as he had just replaced the burned-out transformer. I was hoping to catch an arc-over as he spliced the cable with a wand.

I entitle the shot, "How'd you like this guy's job"? I stopped complaining. The client used the shot in some PR pieces where they were publicizing their emergency responses to power failures. If I was in that bucket, I would have, at least, required a change of underwear- that technician never flinched and just continue on with his work.
