Printer Recommendation

Depends on what you print and how much you want to spend. I decided to buy a Canon Pro 1000 several years ago. Never regretted it. The reason I chose it was, I was at a "Photo Expo" and Canon was demoing prints and used a Pro 1000. If that was what they used it should be the best printer for me.
The print is the last step in showing your work, after ball your time and expensive cameras and lenses somI don't cut in the last step. Use good paper and factory properly balanced ink.

Years ago HP had printers that would stop working if any of the ink cartridges passed their expiration date. Once HP realized that it was all over the internet that turning the clock back on the computer solved the problem they dropped that 'feature'. Not sure if that is still an issue on any printers.

I have an Epson R380. Don't print enough to buy tank printer. Color is great. Has 5 color cartridges and black. And older HP Laser Jet P1006 for black and white, mostly printed documents. I would replace both with like units. The Epson is about 5 years old and the HP is probably close to 8 years old and no issues with either.

I, personally, recommend the Epson P700 or P900 for photo work only. I have a P800 but it was replaced by the 700/900. Also, checkout Red River Paper, which I use exclusively. YMMV. Best of luck.

My faithful HP printer died of natural causes this morning, so I'm reaching out for guidance on replacement. There are more Makes & Models of printers than there are of cameras, so maybe you can advise me of which ones to avoid. Vendor options (Best Buy, Staples, etc.) are also a multitude. Thanks for your help.

After far too many inkjet printers cratering either from electronic problems or plugged print heads, I've gone totally Dye-Sub printers. No plugged printer heads. No messy ink. Photo quality prints and reasonable cost per print.

You don’t say what you print, how often you print, do you print photos, what size photos, how particular you might be to the quality of the photos, how much cost is a factor to you regarding ink for your printer, etc.
Provide this information and folks can zero in on recommendations for you.

A hint on what kind of prints you want to make, size of prints, and color or B&W would be helpful.

I bought the Epson 8550 eco tank and in 6 months I'm on the 4th unit due to defects. Prints 11x14 and has the ink tank so cheap prints. Prints are great but I wanted photo printing and copy and scan. If you don't need Prints up to 13x19 then the 8500 for less money.

Sorry to hear that your Epson 8550 has been problematic because I have had one for about as long and have not had any issues whatsoever with it. Out of curiosity, what vendor did you purchase it from? Also did you have any issues with getting the vendor to replace the defective printers?

Generally speaking. If you want to just print photos then buy a photo printer. If you want higher speed and need to print for an office and want to save money then buy an all purpose/office printer. Epson 3700 eco printer are great. You will not get "great" photo prints. Photo printers generally have multiple ink carts and are slower. Office printers usually just come with black and CYM inks. Better photo printers usually have from 8 to 12 ink cartridges. Office printers can print on 8.5 inch paper or smaller. Better photo printers can print on paper up to either 13 or 17 inch wide. I have had a canon Pro 1000 for about 5 years now. It has 12 carts and can go up to 17" wide paper and up to 47" long. 13x19 is another standard size paper. Some printers can take rolls of paper. The 1000 does not. Figure out what is the biggest/widest paper you might want to print on and go from there. The pro 1000 carts are about $60 each. They hold a lot of ink but still waste a lot due to frequent automatic cleanings. You can refill for less at from $24 to $47 (OEM ink) per cart. Stick to either epson or canon for photos. Lots of videos on photo printing on YouTube.

For photos check out 13x19 Canon and Epson printers. My preference is Canon as they don't clog.

I love this comment. Some people say they buy Canon because they don't clog. Others buy HP because they don't clog. And still others buy Epson because they don't clog. I think all companies have printers that sometimes clog, but most never do. My old Epson 2880 never clogged in six years. My newer Epson P800 hasn't ever clogged in three years. I think clogging printers is just the bad luck of the draw and can happen to any printer from any company, but mostly never does.

I've had all three brands of inkjet printers and all of them 'clogged' with the repair cost higher than the price of a new printer. I've gone with Dye-Sub printers for the past few years and have never had a problem and the image quality is great!

Your Very Lucky! My Epson 2880 clogged all the time! In fact All my Epson photo printers clogged (I’ve had 4) if I didn’t use them every week…Ridiculous! Running a nozzle check and then the cleaning cycle ate up so much ink! I finally switched to the Canon Pro 200. Sits idle for weeks and No clogs! Not an Epson fan anymore!

It's not the Epson, it's the Brother 985?
