Undecorating Day

Everyone else posts pictures of their houses decorated or decorations in their house for Christmas. I was quite lazy and didn't get my camera out for most of Christmas, so I don't have any of those pictures. But here's one now of what it looks like on undecorating day.

We also have bins of Christmas decorations -- about half that was used. I told my wife we need to donate everything we didn't use this year!

Yep I took 40 bins of decorations down from the attic this year and put 43 back up....thank heaven I was able to leave the other 20+ we had up there to be used next year....or the year after. At 65 I was hoping for a little downsizing and less trips up and down that ladder to the attic. Grandkids love the decorations so up and down I go and Grammy keeps decorating until the grandkids come in with their earbuds in and cell phones in hand.

Most of the Christmas/Thanksgiving decorations are (probably) based on collecting the things that we remember from our growing up years, (At home years).

To (try) and part with an ornament that once hung on your family Christmas, is not going to work.
Our hearts desire with (that ornament), is to keep the memories alive. Even our kids don't understand why we save so many ornaments. When storing the keepsakes, we separate all of the family Imementos) into one box.

Our tree is nearly 8 feet tall and we are running out of room. The grandkids ornaments are put on first during Thanksgiving, and the (tribute) ornaments go on next.

Many of the ornaments are inscribed on the back that help to recall the date that the little "bobble" was saved after a family vacation.

For anyone (outside) the family circle, try to tell a family to "give away" ornaments, is heartless.

I say, just follow your heart. Traditions are not "trashed" or recycled to the local thrift store.

I once created a photo plaque and gave it as a gift to my father in law for Christmas. He loved it.
About 10 years later, I was in a local breakfast cafe, and the plaque. was hanging on their wall.
It hurt me a little, but then I realized that the whole town was enjoying my art work.
(since that time, the cafe has changed hands, and redecorated.)
I am thankful that I didn't have a chance to retrieve it from their dumpster after they remodeled.
Memories are often filled with self pride......(which is better than self pity).

Keep the Traditions of Your Christmas.

I heard a statistic that 3% of Americans put up lights on Christmas day! Maybe your wife is one of them -- putting on the finishing touches she started a month earlier!

Mine was yesterday. Seems we put less and less up each year. My outside lights are down to a red and green bulb on the garage lights. And I'm ok with that.

We have a room in the basement that is the size of our family room (approx 13X26). It is filled with bins like yours exclusively for Christmas. We haven't decorated like we used to and don't have the massive clean up we used to have. I have tried to get rid of stuff, but most of our "stuff" is special and we like it. Next year we will get it up again and have a "Griswold's" interior Christmas, again.
