I was awake at midnight. The hours leading up to midnight - not entirely awake.

About "today's entertainers have no talent at all". In my opinion, many, if not most of "today's entertainers", simply have no formal training in music. The current styles of music are mostly repetitive rhythm with words. I do not consider it music. Music has form and it requires training and knowledge to perform. Most of the current music scene's artists do not have either. Consequently, older and more knowledgeable viewers of music, conclude the artist's "do not have talent". They may have talent, but the form of "music" does not require talent or training. At least in "my opinion".

Mark you are absolutely right. As an ex professional (big band era) musician I cannot believe what is called music today. I shudder at the first note I hear and immediately turn whatever program is playing OFF. I’m going back to the fifties! Care to join me?

Oh yes, my car radio is tuned to 2 stations, the 40's and 50' music. I can tolerate a bunch of the 60's but thats about it.

Yes, as always I stayed up to ring a bell outdoors - something my Mom had us do every New Year.

That seems bizarre to me! Annoy any neighbours who don't want to stay up, without giving a visible spectacle (which at least fireworks do).
What is the supposed benefit?

But music can sometimes be like photography. The equipment can be the best, the photographer can have their skills honed to the finest and are absolutely F-8 and there and have captured the scene in exquisite light and superb composition, post processing moves the excellent even closer to perfection. And with music, I won't make a similar list, but suffice it say, all the I's have been dotted and all the T's have been crossed. Still with all that, that "perfect image" or that "perfect tune" somehow inexplicably falls short " Images that were created years ago with equipment that would be considered laughable today still connect with us in a meaningful way. While I agree that music, all music is better when performed in a coherent manner by players with talent and training, there are all sorts of genre's of music, many which are as much a part of the warp and woof of this nation as the music you prescribe to us.

One makes loud noises, rings bells, blows whistles etc. to scare off the "evil spirits" and ensure a good new year.
Very scientific, LOL!

Same for fireworks, but those scare the heck out of my dog, so it's bells for me, too!
