I made it to midnight this year!

Myself and my grandson were up till 10 past midnight. I have to say today's entertainers have no talent at all.
I watched the country music NYE show on CBS--a lot better than the crap on the rap show.

About "today's entertainers have no talent at all". In my opinion, many, if not most of "today's entertainers", simply have no formal training in music. The current styles of music are mostly repetitive rhythm with words. I do not consider it music. Music has form and it requires training and knowledge to perform. Most of the current music scene's artists do not have either. Consequently, older and more knowledgeable viewers of music, conclude the artist's "do not have talent". They may have talent, but the form of "music" does not require talent or training. At least in "my opinion".

Everything I watch is recorded. What a difference that is from days gone by. I've missed weddings and funerals because there was something good on TV. (Well, not really). We are really spoiled by TV now. I can watch a series straight through without having to wait a week for the next installment.
As for musical training, that's not what sells. Sure, some of them can play an instrument, but agents and producers want someone with "that sound" and "look" that will make them money.
A month ago, I posted that young kid who was a wiz on the piano. As people said, great piano players are a dime a dozen. There are several I watch on YouTube, but I'm sure they're not millionaires. Justin Bieber? His net worth is about $400 million.
I listen to XM during the day - 40s and 50s.

Well past...but midnight came and went without notice.

I posted videos of Joey Alexander when he was about 9 or 10. I have him in my music files. Fabulous talent. He's a full grown jazz artist now.
Of course it is not what sells and of course it is not what is being produced. I call the "stuff" non music music . The hoards seem to love it. Anyone can "sing" and "dance to it". It's great for hoards of audiences to join in and participate. Even the "older vocalists' are joining in. I don't listen to or watch it. Last night, it was pounding while we watched the "ball fall on Times Square. My company wanted to see that, I watched too, because I did not want to be a party pooper. I was bored and internally annoyed.
I'm "old fashioned I guess". Actually I'm just old!
Happy New Year!

I agree with a lot of what you say. I am and have always been a country music fan from ‘way back when there were clear channel am stations from Nashville that I could listen to late at night. Country music today has evolved into I am not sure what. Many of the songs today sound like an old cow bawling, with an uuuh sound at the end of every line. I have satellite radio in my vehicles, and that allows me to tune in to 90s and older music that is much better. I watched the Nashville NYE show last night, and it was at least better than the New York show (one rap song is one too many for me). I also enjoy jazz, big band, and the like. I appreciate most of the links to good music that you post here. Thanks for doing that.

Yes… but it is a change from recent years where I haven’t stayed up, or awake. 2 differences this time:
(1) Dec 31st college football from noon till midnight [I have soured on pro football but been a college football, and Alabama fan since the 50s] and
(2) for the last year my sleeping habits changed and I have stayed up later

I understand your discontent and your preferences. I just go my way and continue to add to and enjoy music.
Happy New Year, John!
