eBay payment problem

EBay allegedly was to use PayPal. Why they blew it is beyond my comprehension as I use PayPal regularly and have never had any problem with paying or receiving payment for items I have bought and sold to individuals and/or companies. I bought two Hoya filters from individuals through eBay a couple of months ago and both transactions went as smoothly as possible with no glitches at all.

Albeit eBay is hard to contact at customer service. But the originator of this thread should establish with them, just where they credited the customer payment. And if they were waiting until a shipping label or actual shipment madei---whether they had a firm payment from the buyer. I don't know the eBay policy for their own store keepers, but often a seller immediately forms a shipping label and tracking number before the item ever makes it to the PO or other shipper. I presume to release the money. But if eBay claims they paid the seller, why cannot the money destination be given to the seller claiming nothing reached their bank? -----------------

I never used eBay, but if I did, and did have a problem with them I wouldn't bring it to a photography site. There are probaly many sites that can help with this type of issue whether it's a camera, a bicycle, or a yacht.

Just a thought, as more and more threads on UHH actually have nothing to do with photography.

It is in the non-photography section.

I am amused by the animosity toward eBay that surfaces in threads like this. I have bought and sold on eBay for years with no problems. Yes, there were times when items were not quite as expected, but these disputes were always able to be resolved. In fact, my most serious unresolved dispute was with a purchase made on this site, where there are fewer buyer protection policies in place. So lighten up, folks. EBay is a legitimate business that derves a purpose.

That’s why UHH has a “General Chit Chat” section…for items unrelated to photography.

A week before Christmas I sold a camera and allied items on eBay, price less than $100.00. EBay sent me a message that the buyer had paid, that they had deducted their fee, and the balance had been sent to my bank. No deposit has been made in my bank account from eBay at all as of today. I have been in touch with the buyer and he has also been trying to find out what is going on. EBay has now stated that they have re-sent my share but it has not shown up according to my bank. I have received a notice from eBay threatening me with death and dismemberment if I did not ship the camera. Obviously I am not going to ship the camera until eBay deposits my share. My attempts to contact eBay resulted only in their usual brain-dead boiler plate replies. My concern now is not what happened to my share but that the buyer is out what he paid eBay. I am not out anything but it sure has cured me from buying or selling on eBay.

I’ve been selling on eBay for 15 yrs and it has gone through a lot of changes during that time. I resell vintage camera equipment to help finance my expense hobby (jsjeepster). It’s a great platform to use for my needs. As with any tool it’s learning how to use it. eBay sold PayPal and started handling payments themselves. After the need to link a new bank account it’s worked flawlessly. eBay will not initiate payment until a label is generated and scanned into the postal system. This works for me. I do buy insurance for peace of mind above $300 mark, sometimes at my own expense. All else is the cost of doing business. My margins are good, heck of a lot better than Craigslist because of the size of the platform. You’ll have to learn to trust the platform. I couldn’t run a one man operation without this exposure.

Not only that, but there's a bunch of us here that regularly buy photo gear on eBay.

I got scammed by what seemed to be ebay and paypal. The emails I received looked exactly like they were from both companies so I called paypal and they got ebay on with us. They both said everything looked official until ebay rep found one thing that wasn't right. Call ebay as has been said before. I got it all straightened out.
