Lost Fisherman's Memorial located in the small coastal fishing town of Lubec, Maine.
Its sculpture is a lasting tribute dedicated to the fishermen who have been lost at sea over the years while fishing in and around
the surrounding waters here. In the distance is Mulholland Point Lighthouse across Lubec Narrows on Campobello Island, New
Brunswick, Canada.
This work of sculptor Jesse Salisbury eulogizes in granite this memorial situated at the Lubec waterfront.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends and loved ones left behind.
Feel free to share.

Nice!! I like the use of the Memorial to frame the Lighthouse; it ties the 2 together creating a story.

Thanks Dodie;
I took this last evening following a light snow here in Lubec.
Several compositions were taken,...this was my favorite.
The composition required two raw exposures,.....one focused and exposed for the lighthouse highlights and a second focused and exposed for open shadows on the monument. Each were processed individually as required in Adobe Camera Raw,...then brought into photoshop as individual layers and combined, aligned and then processed as req'd using layer masks, adjustments and final sharpening for the desired result.
I had shot this two nights ago but the ground surrounding the monuments were cluttered with footprints, ice and clutter which detracted from the image.
A tripod was used to maintain alignment in the frames during focusing.
My work is all done on manual settings, am an old dinosaur having never used auto focusing or auto anything,....lol.
Thanks for your comments, appreciated.
Good morning. I appreciate this tribute to lost seaman from the standpoint of a former sailor in the U.S. Navy. On the sea, unexpected, unplanned things happen. The sea remains a wild place, risky to traverse. Thanks for sharing a picture of this monument.

Where we live this monument was a long time coming for the same reasons you mention.
It is especially difficult for the families and loved ones at this time of the year who live this loss.
For the many fishermen who venture out daily in fair weather or frigid icy conditions this real threat is unmentioned and unspoken yet felt subconsciously each and every working day eeking out a living on the unpredictable and strong tidal waters found here.
I can only imagine the experience of spending such long periods at sea not knowing the outcome of any given day while at the same time longing to return to port and awaiting family and friends.
Hard working and resourceful are the fishermen who provide and bring food to the tables of everyday people who have no idea or inkling where their food comes from or what unknowns are involved.
Thanks for your input "anotherview" and for your words that I'm sure are tangible to many who have or do live such lives.
Happy New year
Well done! Thanks for sharing.
