When I backup my Lightroom catalog I get a message that it is over 4G and that I will need an external unzip application to restore it if necessary. Have any of you had this issue and what application did you install to handle the situation in a user friendly manner? I am running a Mac Studio with Monterey and a MacBook Pro with Monterey.
My LR6 catalog on a Win10 machine is 9.4GB today with about 94,000+ images. I don't get any messages like what you describe. Who is giving you this message, Adobe LR or some other software that is performing a back-up of the LRCAT file? From LR6 onward, when the LR software 'backs up' the catalog, a ZIP file is created into a subfolder named \Backup, a subfolder in the same location as the LRCAT (unless you define a new place).
If you're a subscriber, you might get better help by opening a technical support chat with Adobe and ask for clarification.
This is standard. It simply means you need to use unzip software to open it. It creates no issues.
This is a Mac message. Apparently Mac internal software cannot unzip files larger than 4G.
I understand I need unzip software. I was asking which I should choose.
Have you tried to simply double-click on the zip file? That should extract the zipped catalog backup. That's all I need to do on my MACS.
