No, this place opened in 1975 & is noted for its New Kingdom artifacts -- The big multi-billion dollar place to be known as "GEM" - Great Egyptian Museum is "still" yet to be open - Maybe March/May of 2023 & maybe not -- Everything in Egypt takes lots & LOTS of time -- The 19 of us had an hour all to ourselves in the old but VERY current Cairo Museum during our last night in Egypt. The place still had all of Tut's Bling -

I've seen quite a bit of the new museum on TV shows. That's the only way I'm going to see it.

Well, nine photos are - The 1st photo was added only because I happen to like it was taken at the tomb of Kagemni in Saqqara near the Step Pyramid. Kagemni was the Chief Justice of all of Egypt during the Old Kingdom he was also the king's brother-in-law. The museum at Luxor was opened to the public in 1975 and specializes in the display of New Kingdom artifacts all unearthed in and around the old capital of Thebes

That looks like a fantastic collection. I'm glad they allowed photography. Thanks for the history lesson, too, Ken.

Thanks for coming by & checking out the photos -- Glad you like most of them
Note the 2nd photo:
On the reverse side of the mountain across the Nile resides the Valley of the Kings & Queens along with numerous temples. During the next two days, we visited a great many of them.
Our entire trip in Egypt and on the Nile was like a Disney Land ride into the Bronze Age.

It sounds like you were with a tour group. May I inquire, was it a Nile river cruise? We have one planned in about 1 year, maybe November. I’d love to hear your top ten tips for traveling to Egypt. Very nice photos, raised my level of excitement about our trip.

We went with National Geographic -
Ck out their site will include all the details
An 11day trip included 4 domestic air trips within Egypt plus 2 or 3 can't recall how many days on a riverboat Trip includes an N.G. hired Egyptionalist - The only downside is getting there & getting back -- Airports & Planes suck
The best Egyptian brand of Beer I tried is Luxor Beer -- Never drink water from the tap -- Only bottled water or better yet stick with Luxor Beer -- Stay away from any drinks with ice

In the Luxor Museum no photography is allowed. As with the tombs, photography was once permitted in the museums. Now it is not. Cameras should be left in a foyer and collected on departure.

Good photos! Often difficult to get decent photos in museums due to reflections on glass and less that optimum photo lighting (at the old Cairo Museum anyway). Thanks for the post
