These are beautiful! Thank you for this set. I believe you have accomplished a difficult task;

Although, it appears that you are in my backyard. We have a bunch of pitcher plants and protea growing.

Thanks very much, Horatio. I assure you, we didn't sneak into your backyard for these photos! Are you in the Pensacola area? That's where these photos were taken, in a State Park.

We are in Cocoa, on the Indian River. I turned our backyard into a nature feeding area, with a small bog that has lots of pitcher plants, protea, a bromeliad and plumeria section, a variety of frogs and a million more mosquitoes. It is pretty to look at, but it is not so enjoyable during mosquito season. We do have bat houses and flying squirrels, so I am working on attempting to photograph those.

I recommend to everyone to take a trip to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Area. Now through spring are terrific times for bird photography.

By the way, you are welcome in my backyard anytime.

Thanks! We have been to Black Point, Merritt Island many times and I have posted a bunch of photos from there on the Hog! Lake Apoka wildlife drive is one of our favorites and I have LOTS of photos posted here on the Hog from there!! We are down in Tampa right now, so haven't been doing the wildlife drives, but we hope to fix that soon.
If you have some time, take a look at some of my posts from those two drives. I think you will enjoy them!

I will absolutely look at your images. There are a number of places that you should visit whilst you are around the Tampa area. There is one very interesting location around Orlando, called Gatorland. There are numerous bird opportunities plus more. If you are taking I-75 and are able to make a side trip, it is well worth it. I will find my Tampa recommendations and post them tomorrow.

My apologies for the delay in responding. Our internet has been down and I was unable to get this out before this.

In the Tampa area, there are a couple parks, Lettuce Lake Park and Flatwoods Park are two right in Tampa. You should see a very large number of species of birds in Lettuce Lake Park. Flatwoods Park permits dogs and bicycles. In Lakeland, you will find the Circle B Bar Reserve is a terrific area for photographs of birds and also landscape. It was previously a functioning cattle ranch, so you will be able to see some barns and cattle pens. If you like butterflies, this is a terrific area for them. Fort De Soto Park is located in Tierra Verde and this is wonderful bird area with a large species of birds. Riverhills Park is another terrific area for birds. This park is located in Temple Terrace. John Chestnut Park in Tampa is another terrific location. My first two recommendations would be start with the Circle B Bar Reserve and Fort De Soto Park, as I have been very happy with the amount and varieties of birds in both locations. Some of the parks charge an entrance fee, but it is well worth it. When I last was there, Fort De Soto Park and Lettuce Lake had entry fees under ten dollars, but Circle B Bar Reserve and John Chestnut were free.

There is also the Egmont Key National Wildlife Refuge, the Passage Key National Wildlife Refuge, the Pinellas National Wildlife Refuge and Shell Key Preserve in your area.

In Florida there is a program called the Great Florida Birding Trail which you might want to take a look at when you get a chance. https://floridabirdingtrail.com
