I have noticed (around here at least) the trend of photographers is to favor Nikon cameras over Canon or other brands.
The irony is that they are not even using the top models but rather a basic cropped sensor model.
Is this an indication of better quality or just minimal budget.

This forum is a fair cross section of photographers generally. Numerically less expensive consumer oriented cameras far outsell flagship or enthusiast models. That is reflected here. By and large the quality of work shared by others in the gallery and sub groups also runs at average levels.

You do no favors by inciting discussions as to brands. No one asked Picasso what brand of paint he used.

I haven’t noticed that trend, though brand and/or model isn’t important to me so it may be that I just don’t register it.

Average age is why.

Yes\No. Yes, I shoot Nikon, but a major driving force is the investment in lenes. The camera body is a fraction of the total expense. Today, my 11-year-old grandson will shoot Christmas lights with my old D70. I will have my crop D7100 as backup while I will shoot D850. So why did I upgrade from D7100 to D850? In perfect light, they are equals. In less than perfect light, D7100 falls short. What is really great is I can pickup any of these cameras and they operate the same...like any DSLR Nikon. Canon and Sony shooters can tell the same story. So why have I not upgraded to mirrorless Z9? My investment is in DSLR lenes, about $20k as receipt insured with Allstate. The Z9 in most test is within single digit percentage of surpassing the D850 and it is lighter. Lighter than a D850, with same lens and special adapter? So is it budget? Yes/No.

LOL - the market, rather than UHH, says people prefer Canon digital cameras at a rate of 4.7 Canons to every 2.2 Sony to 1.8 Nikon.

But certainly, just reading the UHH squawk box, one would think the numbers are 8 Nikons to 1 each of Sony and Canon.

Go to a fair, the zoo, concerts, etc. and you will see a preponderance of Nikon cameras. You will see a few Sony, and even fewer Canon, Fuji, and Olympus. I think most professionals use cameras in the order you gave but in the less-than-prosumer group, it seems Nikon is still the leader. It also depends on geography. From what I have read, Olympus is the preferred camera in Japan.

You are quite right and given a few exceptions it is an indication marketing has targeted the appropriate user.

Chevy outsells BMW.

I don't know but I wonder how can it be if Nikon is selling fewer cameras than Canon and Sony?
