You think Apple products have low price? Although all of them are made in China their prices aren't low. The labor isn't dirt cheap any more either.

If the Chinese are paid good salaries, why aren't Americans assembling the products? If Apple wasn't saving money, they wouldn't have laid off all the American workers.

In the beginning (sometimes around the late 80's or eary 90's), a lot of American companies have the idea of making their products in China for cheap labor. At the time the Chinese workers were very poor and would do anything for money but they were not skilled workers in the high tech industry. But they had to make a living and they made lousy products but the labor were cheap so the Amrican companies accept them and sell to you a bit cheaper than before. You do find the quality was low but well it's cheaper so you buy into it. That was the beginning.
Practice makes perfect, gradually these workers gain their experience and skills and thus they gradually make better products. And now they can produce stuff that and be called best in their class and they now wouldn't accept the low pay they used to get. They have higher cost of living now too. So the price is now high, product quality is high.
Now if you think of bringing back the production to the US? Well after laying off all those workers they had to work in another industries, some died, young workers won't do the job because there were no such jobs when they grew up. So now you can't make the product in the USA because you don't have the workers to do it. And the Chinese knowing so won't drop their prices.
So in the end the US gave away their industries to the Chinese and I don't blame the US companies, I do blame the customers who accept low quality for low price in the beginning.

Wow! How could they have engineered a camera that's so much like the iPhone?! They must be very clever. Either that or...

Considering China's propensity for copying, I'm surprised that Apple chose to manufacture in China.

I see no reason why Xiaomi would have to copy anything as they presently collaborate with many other hi-tech companies in the Far East. For example they are presently in partnership with the Korean company Samsung for one. In fact last August the two companies announced they had jointly created the first mobile image sensor to exceed 100Mp. In fact I think in the future other people might start copying their work 😬😬

That's funny! China's "enemy," Taiwan, is having products made on the mainland. Remember when Apple products were made in California? That was nice. Having them made in China is probably the main reason that the prices are now so low - all that cheap labor. 🤣

One must remember that Taiwan is never considered an “enemy” of mainland China, but rather a part of the homeland that is temporarily adrift. To them the enemy are countries, like the US of A, that presently support the misinformed residents. On must also remember that there is a considerable amount of trade between the two countries, especially with food products at the present time.

A number of years ago, when Japanese products first were being sold in the US, the quality was low, and the instruction sheets always were good for a hearty laugh! The Japanese named a city Usa, so product could be marked "made in USA", and most of the early Japanese products were poor copies of US items. Gradually, the quality was improved, until now, when it is considered the best. This is true across a broad spectrum of products. There is, however, a great difference between the Japan of those early days and the China of today being compared, and that is in their political structure, which does not bode well for any major trade partner of Communist China. Incidentally, Taiwanese (Formosa!!!) products rank only slightly below those from Japan. Also, I have personal experience in the US with Chinese motorcycles - junk - and not a sailing vessel! - and, never again! Chinese household goods and appliances may or may not work when brand new, and knockoffs are abundant! Lazada is the Oriental equivalent of Amazon. I don't know the actual statistics, but at a guess I would say 95% of the millions of products Lazada sells are Chinese or inferior Chinese counterfeit copies of name brand items. I have purchased a lot from Lazada, but only with extreme care.

But that's exactly why they named the city USA!!! Very few knew that it was not the country. Whatever was involved, it worked for some time.
