I had heard about the Insta360, but I knew nothing about it, so I watched some videos last night. It works like magic!

It's an action camera with a lens in front and a lens in back, and it records from both simultaneously. The camera knows where its body is, so it eliminates itself from the video. You can use a selfie stick, and the camera makes the stick disappear. When you load the file onto your computer, you have an entire sphere of video - 720°(?). You decide which part to include in your finished video. Walking through the forest, you can show your feet, then the tops of the trees, and then the view behind you.

If I had a need for this, and if it didn't cost $450, I'd love to have one. I'd be glad to accept one as a gift. Hint, hint.

Some may injure or worse showing off with that camera.

Ooh! I wish you hadn't done that! Now I have to try to resist.

Actually, I could justify getting one for my son since he shoots so much video, but I think he would prefer to use a camcorder. He's never had interest in my GoPros. I'll wait till the price drops to $150. I'm very patient. : )

I owned the 4k version of the Insta 360. It works as advertised and was a fun toy to play with. I used it on my racing sailboat to catch the racing action. One of the coolest features is that you can use their editing software to select the view at any second during the video to make a standard video instead of 360. It was like having 4 cameras on the boat but all mounted in the same spot. Also, it has a gyroscope in it. So it self levels the video. This was great to see the degree of heel in the boat in high wind conditions and allowed me to make some corrections to get more boat speed in future races.

My two negatives on it:
1. you need a powerful computer to edit the videos.
2. 4k is actually low resolution when you spread the 4k over a 360 deg field of view. So the video quality was not great. This was about 3 years ago. The new ones are 8k and I think even higher. But that higher resolution is going to make having a powerful computer even more important.

Thanks for that. I'd love to get one for my son for his birthday, but if he doesn't use it, it's $450 down the drain. Our computers have good specs, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I have had a 360 camera for about 6 years. I am on my 3rd one. I recently sold one, I did have it posted here.
I love to play with the camera, one image can be processed into about 5 or 6 different images. I have also done some video with it.

I have taken this camera to Kenya, Cuba, Iceland, Amalfi, where ever I go I take my 360. It fits into an eyeglass case.

Here is a link to my website with a gallery just for my 360 images.
