Love'n all Y'alls shares of your traditions this time of year. Dee's family heritage is Czech, and appearantly their tradition was a Christmas Eave dinner that centered around catfish for the meal. Well we continued that tradition for a while after we were married, but I must admit catfish wasn't a favorite of mine. A couple years after moving to San Antonio and discovering a recipe for grilled shrimp it didn't take us long to start a tradition of our own. So now the tradition is grilling shrimp from the Gulf and beef steak from Nebraska. Well ok it may be a Texas steer on the grill, but it reminds us of the good old corn fed beef we had growing up. However, there is one tradition from the Brezacek/Hruza family traditions and that is still a part of our annual Christmas Celebrations....

.... and that's our annual loaf of vanocka (von och ka), a home baked yeast bread with candied fruits with in. So so good warmed with real butter.

It’s time for a new challenge…”Traditions”. Although Christmas is coming soon and many of us probably have traditions, both handed down from previous generations or those we have created ourselves, go for it. Also, traditions occur throughout the year and certainly don’t limit what you cover to Christmas, New Years, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Years, Winter Solstice, etc. We have a great variety of people and Canada Day, Australia Day, 4th of July, St. Patrick’s, National Patriot’s Day, and Easter. Who knows. Especially with you UHHers’ imagination, I’m sure you’ll have a lot to offer.
Here are a couple of own family traditions. We’re big on decorating for Christmas and these have become some traditional decorations for us. Our son gave us these reindeer for Christmas many years ago and Rick arranges a display now every year.
The church was Rick’s mothers and was once his Grandparent’s. Rick puts it out every year along with the candles that she also used to put out.
Rick’s mom gave us, Rick’s son, and her best friend this puppet for Christmas one year, probably almost 40 years ago. We have kept it out and ever since our granddaughter has been very small, she always wanted to go into the room with “Sam”. And, we have always brought him out for Christmas. He’s family and gets a gift.
It’s time for a new challenge…”Traditions”. Althou... (show quote)

One of our recent family traditions is to travel to Florida from NC at some point in December or January. These first three are from a previous trip to New Smyrna Beach. The fourth is a colorized B&W from the 1970s.

Boy, that looks and sounds scrumptious! I love traditions that have come from one's heritage. The shrimp and streak also sound well worth the tradition.

P. 5 Wonderful Holiday pictures. Florida's Christmas city lights are quite different from what so many of us are accustomed to and make them special. Good reason to make the trip a tradition.

p.5 Beautiful, Bill. So hard for me to imagine a Christmas season with palm trees.

We have another tradition that began 53 years ago Christmas Eve...the year we were engaged. I was living in MIchigan at the time and my "fiance" and I went to what was then called "Greenfield Village" (now "The Henry Ford"). We bought a handblown glass ornament that would hang the following year on our first Christmas tree (#1). Every year since, I hunt down a unique hand blown glass ornament to give my husband. Through the years, only one ornament has broken. Our main tree is decorated in all glass and vintage ornaments. Each ornament represents something special and reminds us how very thankful we still decorate and look at this tree - together. Here are a few.

Traditions are great for a family. Unfortunately, I wored for the governmenet for many years and moved around with my family resuting in not making any lasting traditions for my wife and me.

What a wonderful story and pictures to depict lasting love. The ornaments are so unique too.

I guess you don't have cats, if you only broke one ornament in 53 years. This little guy liked to climb the tree. He probably broke more ornaments than he caught little animals.

I love the traditions of (Christmas decorations), within the home and in the yard lights at night.

My wife is a retired preschool teacher and she decorated her classrooms (for 40 years), with seasonal decorations for the small children.

We have a 8x10 shed that is filled to the roof with seasonal decorations that are brought into the house for 4 different seasons and holidays. (Plum full of see-thru plastic boxes).

I send photos of her decorated house to our friends. They have (at times), thought that Macy's had an explosion in their basement, and all of their department store ended up in our home.

I've learned to enjoy it. (If Mamma isn't happy, then no one is happy.)

Patience is the key with "over the top" decorators. (I've learned to be quiet at Christmas time.)
