Does any UHH member have an Iphone 14 and a "real" Camera? Would you take shots with both?

Q.....What makes a "real camera"?

A.. . Anything with a way for recording the image (sensor or film). A lense or a small hole in the box, and a box for the above.

Fake ones are just for aesthetic looks and movie props.

You are choosing the wrong objects for your test.----We all sit with our newly purchased lenses and camera bodies in an "easy chair" and snap photos of the junk in that room---which is mostly about sharp focus. That is not a good test. It is the ambiance and total handling of the light and colors which is the test. One highly noted master photographer of the 1940s and 1950s said he never read reviews but merely took a roll out of his NYCity office and looked at it.

In your comparison take photos of people as portraits for you comparison. Not junk on the other side of your easy chair. Then make the comparisons. What I have seen with cheap P&Ss and Phone cameras is people's skin is mostly smoothed and washed out. Often it improves their appearance and they love it. But they do that even with children and not just the old people. So---make a real test and not just the easy comparison which is the result of built in algorithms.-------------ew----(The only reason to use a phonei is convenience in candid shots of family and friends.)

Obviously your opinion...

Others, not so much.

I've got an iPhone 12 Pro, and am in no hurry to upgrade to a 14. My wife is even less interested, because she has the smaller 12 and the 14 doesn't come in that size. (We only upgraded from the 10 to the 12 because we got an upgrade offer that was too good to refuse.)

I probably use the iPhone more for casual shots, in large part because it's already in my pocket. My Canon T6i is what I grab when I want higher resolution, precise control of aperture, speed or lighting or greater magnification, eg, macro work. (I'm not all that impressed with flash photos on the iPhone, but I don't take a lot of them.)

The landscape photos I've taken on the 12 seem better than the ones I get with the Canon, but I don't have an ultra-wide lens.

I love the pano option on my phone. SO much simpler.

OK, will do. At my rate of $250 per hour I estimate it will take me 5 hours to complete. I will PM you my consulting agreement for you to sign. It will be for not to exceed $1,250.

Once signed I will commence work.

Or … you could take that $1,250 and buy yourself a new iPhone 14 Pro MAX.

So many people are stuck in analysis paralysis. Just buy it and use it. If you don’t like it return it.

Pano shots (stitched together) sometimes strike me as an application looking for a practical purpose.

Would you print out and frame something that had a ratio of 5-1?

I have an iphone 14 pro max and a nikon z7ii. The best camera is the one you have with you. My phone is with me always. I would NOT take photos with my phone in a planned shoot. That said, I bought the iphone 14 pro max for the megapixels of the camera and the convenience of always having a worthy camera in my possession. I consider the iphone 14 pro max a worthy camera when it is the only one I have with me. Many shots benefit from some cropping. Having the extra megapixels to crop is one of the reasons for the iphone 14, and also one of the benefits of the z7ii.

I have three cameras (big, little, & phone), they all have lenses, sensors, and buttons, they take pictures.
I'm happy!

I didn't compare a bunch of lenses before I got my 18-200. I saw it and said okay, I'll take it.

I just use them.

My wife takes things with her iPhone 13 all the time, and after running through Photoshop and Topaz I have no problem printing 16x20”s

Which real camera are you talking about? Do you mean a point and shoot, a prosumer or a professional camera with pro-grade lenses. At face value I don't think your question has an answer.

The photos I take on vacations in Europe and elsewhere are important to me. I use my camera and change lenses as I think best and I also used my iPhone 11. Photos using both are very good, but I find that the ones that were taken with my camera for the vast most part are superior. I now have an iPhone 14 but haven't been able to use it on a photo vacation yet, so we'll see.

What does it really matter unless you're trying to decide between the iPhone and a camera for a purchase? People have won awards with much "less" equipment than any available now.
