Don't think I would want software making that decision for me. Take the time and do it yourself.

You want software which give you options---exact copy--name copy--size copy and possibly other search criteria. Then displays the duplicates so you can choose what to save and what to erase. I have used such a program for possibly fifteen years---SIMPLY CALLED Duplicate File Finder. It is very fast and goes through lists of any length. I have organized my entire Windows computer with ACDsee "classic." but also have a more complete ACDsee program which does more, but is not as fast at shuffling files and making directories as the basic ACDsee Classic--which might not be yet available. I ways have at least three copies of ACDsee Classic open on my computer to handle files. Very small footprint.-------ew

https://www.bungenstock.de/teekesselchen/
I have used Teekesselchen for some time. It doesn't delete images ... it uses criteria you set and searches a folder or folders to find duplicates. Once found, the keyword 'duplicate' is applied to those images and places those images in an auto-generated duplicates Collection. You then examine and decide 'dupe or keep'.

The best program to do everything you want, (and it's free), is available only for the Windows OS. But for anybody needing, and can use such software, it's Find.Same.Images.OK. I highly recommend it!

It is not kinda sorta like a database. It IS a database. Just designed by others not designed your way. Show no fear of databases. You will find them everywhere.

You are absolutely right.
I was going to say that but I figured I'd get a ration of crap...
I've built databases for over 30 year. I know what they "look like" and how they work, and all about different methods of storage and presentation of data.

I sincerely doubt Longshadow has fear of anything!

Aware of potential danger, and not foolhardy. Fear is nothing more than lack of understanding!!! If you understand, you certainly can be cautious, but never fearful!!!

Exactly!

Edit:
However, I may be fearful of what direction the human race is going.
And makes me very sad as it is massive.

I use 'Duplicate Photo Cleaner'. It does an excellent job with the exception of RAW Sony files. For some reason it won't display RAW Sony files although it does find duplicates of them.

Ah, but he sorta kinda admitted to fear of receiving a load of crap.

I fear I have failed in my thinly disguised attempt to understand Lightroom’s Library is nothing more fearful than a well executed database. ☹️

Figuring that I'd get a bunch of crap is not fear, it's a conclusion based on prior observances.
I never said I feared it.
Like I don't fear having words put in my mouth, I anticipate it.

31(base 2)!! I used to teach that in my Alg 1 classes. I actually duplicated the "Sieve of Eratosthenes", with a base two algorithm, and generated primes. I turned the class into a computer. The kids learned a great deal and we had a blast of fun. I loved teaching!! Kids are fantastic - however there were always a few who were royal PITAes! Fortunately, of a very small minority.

MARK: It's great you tried to make it fun and taught them history as well. That is the mark of a great teacher.
