DO NOT, I Repeat, DO NOT use any software by MAC PAW. Especially Gemini, their duplicate finder. It installs software that cannot be removed under any circumstances. Have spent hours with Apple techs at higher levels and it has them shitting bricks!

Free Ccleaner has a function for finding duplicate file, by name, size, and contents.

I have not used it yet, but there is most likely a way to search the archives of this list/forum.

look for "duplicates" "checksum" .

If the sums of the bits in all of the bytes in each file are the same, the files are identical.

on the file checksum, THAT's the way to go!
That will even detect an "edited" file compared to a non-edited file, even though it may be the same shot, they are not "duplicates", they are "similar"!

"Awesome Duplicate Photo Finder" is aptly named. It will locate and show for your choice exact duplicates OR close -- based on actual picture, not on file name. And it's free!

I have an archive of 50,000+ images of airplanes acquired over 60 years from hundreds of photo contributors. I need to find duplicates and other images of the same plane or type of plane. The only way I found to satisfy that requirement: the file names have to have the information I need to search for them. One must plan very carefully what information needs to be included. Fortunately, I realized that a very long time ago, and now I rename the images as I receive them. It took a big effort to get to that point. The program I use to find duplicates and other images of the same plane is called Everything.com. There are ways to run a Windows program on a MAC, but that is outside of my expertise to comment further.

If you have current updates on your computer, Photo has a duplicate finder built in. It compares actual photos, not the data.

Does anyone use or know of a software program (Mac) that will find and delete duplicate photos.

Just bought Gemini 2 from same makers as Clean my Mac
Had around 250k photos videos etc around 5 Tb
Took 2 days to scan , identifief .5 Tb of duplicates or up to 7 copies same file
Now going through list, mostly photos , shows thumbnail size and location
Lets you select what to discard
Have about 1/3 of files to review
So far looks great! Very easy to use
Macpaw is selling it

Any idea of how to access it? I didn't see it in my copy on the Win 11 system.

In December 2022, this is why the largest population of digital photographers are subscribed to Adobe Lightroom.
