Now to convince my Wife.

Be straight up with her about what you want to do and how much it will cost. She might just tell you that it would be cheaper for you to get a girlfriend to take up your spare time!

So, the greatest photographers are shooting JPEG and letting the camera decide how the picture should look?

"A good photograph has the most pixels." In theory perhaps. I have seen outstanding performance from 12 Mp. cameras.
"A good photographer has a mirrorless camera." I would not swear by this one. Many professionals still use dSLR cameras and swear by them.
"A great photographer masters PhotoShop." Yes but other photographers could be using very successfully other editing programs.

Interesting, seeing as most here keep buying the latest camera as fast as it is produced then have 5-6 or more cameras.
Master? Not likely.

The road to success and the road to failure are both littered with discarded cameras, mostly DSLRs.

Willing to take your out of date Canon 5Diii off your hands, if you pay the shipping. Please send $50 for the disposal fee. Would hate to see you caught out in public with such horrible tech.

I have a pair, neither has fully exhausted their capability. When their day finally comes, I think I'm going to convert one to IR and then sell the other. They're well used and I've been promising myself to capture some images of their condition of well wornness.

When I had my 12MP Nikon d2 I felt safer knowing that it would survive the collision with some muggers jaw when swung from the end of the neck strap. the lens might not survive but the body sure would. It was also nice knowing that I was carrying a camera that cost over $5K new and I only paid $200 for it. My oldest daughter uses it now to make beautiful images.
With 12MP you can make beautiful 8x10 prints and acceptable 11x14 prints. with AI even larger.
