Very impressive. Learned a lot about composition, perspective, and color. Also really thought they were just super photos. Thanks for posting them.

Wow!! Those images of the grist mill are perhaps the best images I have seen on UHH. I very rarely comment on other folks images but yours were spectacular. Just stunning. Would you mind telling me what camera you used and did you use a neutral density filter. I assume a tripod was in the mix.

I'd always wanted to see Glade Creek Grist Mill and had planned to go there our first morning in Hico (nearest base for exploring the triangle between Hawksnest, Summersville, and New River Gorge). As it turned out, though, we arrived there mid-afternoon on our way up from Monroe County. At first we thought we'd just go check it out, but the clouds provided such soft lighting that we went ahead and shot the works. Before calling it a day, we drove down to the Tunney Hunsaker bridge that crosses the New River and shot up to "The" Bridge just as the light was disappearing behind the mountain.

All really nice. Have to plan a trip to that part of the country!

Thanks so much, Tony! You won't be disappointed when you go. We left a lot on the table at the end simply because the weather had removed most of the autumn leaves, so we headed home. But now we have a reason to go back.

Beautiful photos of that gorgeous mill!! I love #1, #4 and #6!!

You have really done some touring in WV!! My best friend and I went to West Virgina years ago but this is not the area we visited. I had hoped for a return trip but she sold her motorcycle.

On that trip we took some back roads that were excellent riding and eventually came into a little town and stopped at the local gas station, grocery store, bait shop, propane filling station, etc store. The gas pumps didn't have slots for credit cards because they were the old ones where the numbers rolled around. I was surprised to see them. The next shock came when this nice kid about 15 or 16 came out to pump the gas for me, I declined and he went to see if he could help my friend who also declined. Going in to pay I saw a large sign on the wall stating "No Credit Cards". When it was my turn I said something about I was glad I didn't need to pay with a credit card. The gentleman looked at me and said he would take a check. I almost fell over. I told him I was from North Carolina and he said that was ok, he would take my check. I thanked him and paid with cash. When I got back outside I asked my friend if we had been transported back in time. It was an experience I won't forget.

I can relate to your story, Dodie. My family moved from Miami to a very small town in western NC in the 50's. It was a different world. Leaving doors unlocked being the most notable difference. Those were the days when a man's handshake was his word. What a treat that you had that experience in recent years!
