Continuing Sage of Big Red (The Computer)

I had mentioned how the computer guy got my Big Red (computer) working - one bad memory stick. I bought a pair of 16GB Crucial memory sticks, but the computer wouldn't boot. After messing around with it for a while, I brought it to the guy. He worked it for an hour and a half, and he got it working, without the new memory. The Crucial memory was almost perfect for the Asus Z-170A motherboard. Almost. The only way the computer will run is with the original 16GB G.Skill memory stick in the first slot - A1.

Fortunately, the new memory is perfect for the Dell I've been using, and B&H has the perfect memory for Big Red. It's amazing how many variations there are among memory sticks. They look identical, and they have identical specs, but they will work with one motherboard but not another. My computer had 32GB of DDR4 3333 memory. I bought 32GB of DDR4 3200 memory, but there are several versions of that. Live and learn

Here's a tip: before buying memory, go to crucial.com (or a similar site) and see what memory is compatible with your computer.

Now that Big Red is working, I'm going to clone the 500GB M.2 onto a 1TB M.2. I know in advance that I will have problems with that.

For the hour and half work on my computer, I had to the computer guy again - $20.

I mentioned to the computer guy that I believe computer components have minds, and they mess with us. He didn't disagree with me.

Thanks for the tip, I have always used crucial.com to ascertain the correct memory modules whenever upgrading or building a new system.

When I built it, I used PCPartPicker.

I cloned the M.2 drive. So far, so good.

EDIT: No, not so good. Trial and error.
