I looked at the tech specs for the new Affinity2 programs. My HP laptop does NOT have a graphics card that will handle the new Affinity software. It may require me to look at a gamer laptop in order to keep up with Affinity. I just upgraded my Corel PaintShop Pro 2023 with NO problems and transfered my Topaz plugins to the upgrade. Got to love annual Black Friday sales.
I downloaded a free trial of Affinity 2 and it does work on my computer, however I am not sure I will be purchasing the new version as the old version works fine for me. I do use Paintshop Pro Ultimate 2021 and plan on purchasing the 2022 version. As you noted the sale price is very attractive, and I find that I primarily use PSP and Nikon's NX Studio anyway.
I thought I downloaded a free trial but I see no proof of that on my computer. If I click the version I have I get the old version and I see nothing to indicate that I did the download as I was assured by Seriff that I did.
What is going on?
Affinity Photo is the software I've had the longest and use the most, my computer is old without a graphics card and I was pretty sure V2 wouldn't work. I was happily surprised when it seems to work just fine. I checked and in preferences at least mine has the hardware acceleration box checked for off so I think the default setting is off.
The icon for version 2 doesn't automatically show up on your computer, you have to search for it, I now have mine pinned to the task bar. It looks the same as the version 1. So far no problems, but I always assume any glitches are user error.

Had the same problem. Found if I 'right click' on the icon in the task bar it shows an option to open either version 1 or 2.
I am running V2 on my Sony. Download the trial version and give it a try.
Since upgrading to Affinity Photo2 I've stopped using Capture One, On1 Photo Raw and Luminar Neo. The new Develop Persona gives me fantastic natural looking landscape images. I tried everything with Capture One but was not able to match the results.
What are the 'useable' benefits of the Affinity Photo2 upgrade? I want 'ease of use'... does it make it more 'user friendly?'
I finally went to downloads and I was able to open up the icon in my monitor. At first I had some issues while editing but I was able to manage. I asked Serif to come up with a sky replacement similar to what Photoshop and Luminar have, something important for the landscape photographer. Maybe version 3 will do it.
My workflow, my style of workflow, is not improved with the new version. I am going to stay with version 1 and perhaps update to version 3 when available.

Affinity is like Photoshop, quite a learning curve. I would recommend you demo Luminar Neo.
