I currently have a 400mm lens for sale here on "the hog" as many of you know. I recently also listed it on Facebook. Since the listing on Facebook I have had 3 people say they want to buy the lens, pay me up front my asking price and give me $100 dollars postage to send it to a "friend" in New York. My instinct tells me this smell bad. So far I have refused their overly generous offer. Am I paranoid or not? I was raised to believe that if it sounds too good to be true then it isn't.
One other person wanted to pay up front and have his son pick it up at a later date. He was too busy to come himself. I suggested that he send the money to his son whom I would meet at the local police station to make the exchange. He suddenly disappeared. Perhaps he found a better deal.
Not sure how these work but they sure smell bad to me.
That is a scam. Offering you $100 postage to send it somewhere is a scam. The other person disappeared because he knew you won't fall for the scam.
Yes I said those are scams and you're not paranoid.
NOPE, NOPE, NOPE!!!
DON'T do it!
The payment will bounce.
...found a better deal?
No, you mentioned "police".......

Classic scam. Run rather than walk away from these creeps.
I bought gear by meeting at the PD and sold some the same way. Once in the parking lot with the police cars and their gate guard was watching, and once in the lobby of our local PD. I called them, and they told me to meet inside the lobby and that they did things like that all the time.
