If the intent is to “warn” other users about Topaz products., that’s going to be a fail for me and most other users who have tried and used their products with excellent results. First, from my experience with Topaz products, they aren’t effective on every bad image, but when they work, which is the majority of the time, they really work wonders at ameliorating noise of sharpening soft or out of focus images. I bought Denoise and Sharpen after comparing them to the native tools in PS/LR and found them to be superior, and when they offered to throw in Gigapixel for $20 more when I bought Denoise, it was a no brainer. BTW, before I invested in them, I tested them extensively against my existing PP tools (LR/PS plus Nik collection)

Secondly, for those considering Topaz products, wait for the usual Thanksgiving or Christmas discounts. Also Google “Topaz SW discounts” - there’s typically one for 15 or 20% that will work. Regarding Photo AI, I have it and am busy comparing it to the individual packages. Most of the time it works as well with a faster workflow, but with a bit less control - just my opinion.

Now, back to the OP’s problem. At least one person has stated (several times) just that it works with PSE 22 as a filter, so maybe your best path is to upgrade. And at the risk of pi$$ing off some other users, let me suggest that if you want all the performance of the 12 or 14 bit raw files your camera produces, consider moving to the subscription model of LR/PS. Yes, they are more complex and more complicated to use, and I know that PSE does everything you need, BUT the inescapable fact is that most PSE tools are 8-bit, while LR/PS is a 16-bit workflow, so if it’s important enough to spend $200 on plug ins, maybe consider either updating PSE to the latest version or moving to LR/PS.

Finally as regards Topaz support, my guess is that the majority of their customers are PS/LR users, and they’ve sorted out support for the past few generations of those. Then there are the ON1, C1, PSE, etc, etc, etc. Add on to that the fact that there are multiple old versions of each which implies many many dozens of versions of PP SW to support, and some, especially outdated versions, are going to get lower priority on the issues that get escalated. it sounds as if you got very personal attention for Topaz, but in the end, they couldn’t address your issue, so your option is to request a refund or upgrade your PP applicTion to a later version or a more powerful product.

And no, I don’t work for Topaz, just a happy user although I do wish it would work as a plug-in for Capture 1.

I have to wonder how many comments are being made regarding the first issued Topaz Photo AI (Beta)
and not the very latest Topaz Photo AI 1.0.9
IMHO, there have been more than a few improvements, and while It is not perfect, it is pretty good.

Now, it is possible to independently (and manually adjust), it is NOT Just "AI":
1. Remove Noise
2. Sharpen
3. Recover Faces
4. Enhance Resolution

I tried an early version on my M1 Mac Studio and it crashed every time I tried to call it from Photoshop CC. They still have not responded.

I download their trial and had unsatisfactory results. After opening the program, it would not open a photo. I sat and waited for at least 15 minutes. It did not (a) use any cpu time, (b) cause an increase in memory used, (c) create any network traffic, (d) create any disk, nor (e) issue any message. I tried at various times to open a raw file taken by a supported camera, a TIFF file, and a JPG, all with the same result. I uninstalled it, download and installed a new copy. The bad results were repeated. Then I uninstalled it again and deleted the downloaded files.

Works OK on M1 Mini 16 GB Ram except when I try Max resize it fails with Out of application memory notice. Does 2X OK.

That is interesting, I use Elements 2021, and felt there was no real reason to upgrade to 2022, particularly when 2023 or greater will probably be coming along. Another example of caveat emptor, the buyer beware. The software makers are getting very clever about how they market their products. The consumer gets screwed!

You are not getting screwed, just be asked to pay for new function. Did you expect forever for free? And people bitch about LR/PS and their monthly charge. The monthly charge gets you constant fixes and new function in the service stream. No more getting caught with your knickers down with downlevel software as you are always up to date assuming you keep up with the updates.

I received it for free because i paid for the annual upgrade coverage on my perpetual licenses. Not impressed with the Topaz AI software, so far it is just okay. DeNoise, Sharpen, and Gigapixel work great. I use ACDSee for asset management and editing. Would not pay full price. They will run sales, i think 2x per year.

I hate to be "debbie downer," but, of recent, I would NOT recommend any Topaz product, particularly not if you use PS Elements. I loved the add ons up until recently, now they don't seem to interface with PS, and, worse, the "enhancements" are less than satisfactory. I have had numerous emails back and forth, they remoted into my computer and tried to fix things, to no avail. It has now been months and I can virtuyally not use the programs. They keep saying that they have my problem on their list of things to fix, but, that doesn;t help me. Don't waste you time and money!

Believe me I understand your frustration. I have spent over 35 years building and troubleshooting pc and networks since the first IBM PC. One thing I learned a long time ago is that even if two pc's have the same hardware and operating system there can be problems running the same program. The primary reason for this issue is the two systems may not have exactly the same programs on them. And, to further complicate things one of them may have had a program installed at one time and then uninstalled it. Unfortunately, when programs are installed the installation process places numerous files in several location and makes entries into the operating system's database referred to as the Registry. When you uninstall the application, it seldom removes all of the files and reverses the entries it made into the Registry. So these things just get left hanging around often loading pieces into the operating system when it boots up. Don't know why programmers do this, but can only guess that it's just laziness on their part. Sometimes these leftovers can interfere with another application installing and running correctly. On occasion, if you know what you are doing and have made a good backup of the system, you can manually go in and remove much of these leftovers to fix the problem. I can tell you that I have never worked with anyone support person on any software who would attempt to do this on someone's system because you can completely crash their system. So, software support people will and can only go so far in resolving problems that are beyond the typical ones that have been encountered in their normal troubleshooting and verified by the programmers above them. For the majority of times I have encountered these issues, it has usually required that the system be wiped, the operating system be installed from scratch and all of the software, various video printer and other drivers be reinstalled which can take several hours. So, the problem you are having may not actually be a result of any issue with the Topaz software. So, while this may not make you any happier concerning this, perhaps it will lower your frustration level a bit with Topaz.

I generally don't use PhotoAI. I like to use DeNoise at the beginning of my workflow and sharpen at the end.
I can't see any reason to use both at the beginning.

You don't have to if you don't want to.

I never ran into this because I do all of my basics first...I run Photo last.
Usually only mask sharpen anyway.
