Interesting question for a photographer's site. How many folks here ONLY use a phone for all of there photography? answer, 0.

Ha, Ha, Ha

Painful?

I DO use smartphones to make photos.

I love to ride my bike.

But use a truck to haul goods... Capice?

That's a guesstimate, right?

I have never needed a truck and some people have never needed anything beyond the equivalent of AA Instamatic 100 to preserve memories.

Capice?

A smartphone (with a camera for single images and video) has had a dramatic and negative effect on the demand for and sales of point and shoot cameras, some bridge cameras, and likely some lower end mirrorless and DSLRs. A smartphone is a "mirrorless camera" with the ability to capture the image, process it, and distribute it electronically all from the same device. As smartphone image capture and distribution capabilities increase, it will have a continuing negative impact on the sales of some traditional cameras and lenses.

I consider my smartphone to be another camera when I am out taking pictures.

Smartphones have also impacted some segments of the tablet/ computer business too.

For some people, yes. It is as much tool as they want to take on. For most of us on UHH, no. We want a tool that will be able to do more than what the smartphone will do. The smartphone will do when the camera is not in our hand. But otherwise, most of us here will be using a camera instead of a smartphone.

So if a given general discussion isn't important to you or your liking, it should not be brought up or continued?
You must be real fun at parties.

Yea, phone will never replace dedicated cameras,
but they will continue to work well in conjunction with them.

Had a calculus teacher in college. He would ask during review time "Any questions?"
People would ask to go over problem X on page Y.
He looked at it and replied "I already did that one. Any other questions?".
Yea, he already did it, weeks ago in a prior class......

As for the "pointless post (in your mind) and why do you even bother with it,
to complain maybe?

Yea, and in six months someone else (who hasn't seen prior discussions) will ask it again.
So if a given i general discussion /i isn't impo... (show quote)

The best use of the phone cameras is , IMHO, as a method of making visual notes while contemplating a new project.

No. People aren't even considering a camera now that they have a phone.

An early camera of mine was an Instamatic 100 - smart cameras deliver better pictures than that …… and fast enough to use to take notes.

My $5,000 Sony setup was used to take a moon photo which we then compared to one of the new phones...damn, damn, DAMN! His was actually better.

The younger crowd is satisfied with phone pictures like they were satisfied with digital music. They are learning that an album on a decent stereo is better than digital. Many will likely cycle back to DSLR cameras in time for the same reason.

Most phone camera users were never at DSLRs to begin with. Nothing to go back to.
