Wordperfect was perfect! Under DOS, I knew all the function keys including with shift, alt and control. Boy, that was fast. Previously I too had used WordStar You’re bringing back good memories including Lotus and dBase. Now I stick with Libre office as I am retired and don’t need the “good” stuff, which I still think is more stable than Libre. Since I ended my working life with Microsoft products, Libre was a simple alternative.

Mac’s Pages is hard to beat, too.
I'll second that. I have a MS 365 subscription for the family, but Pages is a go to application because it's free and works a lot like the old Aldus/Adobe PageMaker. It's a cross between a word processor and a page layout program, which is exactly what I have always wanted when using Word or PageMaker or AppleWorks. It just keeps getting better every year, too. Word has been bloatware in most versions.
Jerry, I used WordPerfect for several years during the 80's. It was the software of choice for my company. In the early 90's we moved to MS Office. I had to learn MS Word. I have used MS Word ever since and still do in my retirement. Actually I did not know you could still buy WordPerfect.
I use WP exclusively. Years ago someone gave me a desktop on which they installed Word ("because it is the industry standard"). The person couldn't understand why I installed WP and continued to use it instead of Word. When using Word it would transfer whole paragraphs to a new page. WP never did that.
I haven't used Word in years; I used WP for desktop publishing; I had to do a monthly newsletter and WP made it easy (including importing clip art). With WP it was WYSIWYG.

Word could be configured not to do that. It will DO almost anything, but figuring out how seems like rocket science to many people. Microsoft has never really "gotten" the concept of friendly human interface design. I used it daily for 25 years, but it drove me crazy. Some versions were better than others. Word 6 on the Mac was brain torture.
Hi: That is the first program that I used way way back but when the office switched to Word, I had no choice. I am surprised to learn that it still exists.

Jerry: But try this. Make copies of Word files then load them into Word Perfect. Then make copies of Word Perfect files then load them into Word. After you have made edits in each, then load them back into their native program and make more edits. Let us know what you find.
Good idea.
As you mentioned, Reveal Codes is great! I'd be lost without it.
LibreOffice is a good alternative to MS Office and is free. They will accept donations. The current version is 7.2

Yup. Reveal Codes made life easier. Also “make it fit”.

Excel is a pain to use!
Lotus 123 was MUCH better!
dBase was THE BEST!
That depends on what version you have. If you have the basic version that comes with MS Office, it IS a pain. If you get the full version that may come with 365 or the MS Pro, it should be better. In the basic version offered in Office, I couldn't even copy the format of files. That's just one example. Very irritating. There are some problems with MS Word as well in the basic version the Microsoft supplies when you just buy Office.
