I was in that situation one tome with a used camera with high shutter count but beautiful shape. I sent it away and had a brand new shutter put in to be safe and it was well worth it.

I would return it. That's a lot of it's life used up and no way to know if you have 1 click left or 1 million.

Have you looked at refurbished? They are checked over by a tech and the one I received when I purchased a refurbished D810 had 176 on the shutter. I have been very pleased with it.

Unfortunately, you cannot assume refurbished means a low shutter count. The refurbished D750 I bought direct from Nikon had over 40,000 clicks.

In Canada a new D850 is $3300.00 CAD plus 13% taxes, about $2400.USD + 13%
I paid $975.00 CAD or $727.00 USD, was a fair price.
I also have a D7000,610,750 and my experience says not to worry.
Thanks for you comments,.

WOW! Keep it if you like the camera feel and it has the features you want.
I have never had a digital camera fail, but I spread my shooting over several bodies.
No point in selling any camera you have to give away.

My question would be whether you can get the shutter replaced by Nikon in Canada if it was bought in another country (not sure about Nikon’s grey market policy in Canada). Might be worth checking with Nikon, Canada before deciding.

Just purchased and received a used Nikon D850 from a very reputable Photography Store/chain in Canada.
Great price camera, less than 1/3 of a new one, looks brand new, not a scratch anywhere however I have just confirmed that it has been well used, the shutter count is 228,795, Hmmm
So far the D850 is working as expected.
I have a 90day money back warranty.
Any thoughts? Keep of return?

Did you ask about shutter count before purchasing it?
That is usually the first question I ask {or ask for. Photo so I can figure it out myself}

I'm pretty sure when you buy a refurbished camera from Nikon you are not able to get that information. At least I wasn't able to the two times I bought refurbished cameras from them.

I won’t worry much about the shutter count. I have a freind that has a D700 with 380,000 and still working well. Nikon only states the shutter count is tested at a number like 150,000 it doesn’t mean it will stop working after that.

I got my 810 used with 7600 shutter count and I reseted my two times. After resting battery life lasted and some settings were I couldn’t figure out was gone too. I would send it back, I wouldn’t like to have repairs least not the first some years

I bought a Refurbished D850 from Nikon in May, 2021 for $2195. Shutter count when I received it was 2. Assume the shot I took to get the shutter count was #2. Everything about it was like new. You might want to take a look and see what they have available, including price and consider your options.

I agree anything you get from Nikon is like new. I had two camera bodies in for repair due to my fault and they come back looking like new
