Daylight saving time is for the northern states. The seasonal daylight changes are significantly larger there than they are in the southern states and countries. On the equator, the only variation in sunrise and sunset comes from the 'equation of time' which describes the changes due to the elliptical orbit of the earth around the sun. As you go further north, the changes are more dramatic.

DST is mostly something that makes it possible for many people to get up in the morning to daylight rather than darkness. Not a problem for the southern people, but the spread up here around 45N latitude is a few hours. That was important in the mid 20th century, but there's a trend to 24 hour businesses now. Supermarkets to steel factories. So there are always some people who are going to be going to work in the darkness, no matter whether there's DST or not.

DST is a social inconvenience. It is not a health hazard.

I’m totally in favor of it. I don’t care if it’s dark when I go to work but I hate when it’s dark when I finish work. We’re having beautiful weather. Last week I was able to either kayak or hike after work before it got dark out. Today it’s a nice 74° and I can’t do any of that stuff because it’ll be dark too early. If we were on permanent standard time my after work hikes and paddling would have ended weeks ago.

Forgive me but my only thought is, Why were you trying to milk a bull in the first place. Just like humans, boy and girl cows are, well, different.

I am aware that boy cows and girl cows are VERY different. However, as it gets darker and and I get little sleep, boy and girl cows look alike until it’s too late!!

Are you sure? I thought either term was acceptable. You’ve aroused the pedant in me😂

I Would rather set my clock back. I do not understand all this whining, moaning, and complaining. I hope you don't have to deal with anything important otherwise you will be a puddle on the ground.

'correctness' really depends on usage. It may have started one way, but if everyone uses it another way it becomes 'correct', or maybe just acceptable.

.. and if you are a dairy farmer please tell your cows you'll be out an hour earlier to milk them. 😂🤣

And if you have pets, you'll have to put up with them asking for food at a different time.

Funny you should mention that. With battery-powered watches, they can run for years. I can always pull a watch out the drawer that will have the current time - DST of Standard. Digital watches can be a nuisance to set because they use different procedures.

True. I have one that is so complicated that even the watch "experts" cannot set it. I have to get the instruction book out every time and it takes about 15 minutes to set it. On the other hand I have a solar-powered watch that picks up the time from the Naval Observatory in Ft. Collins. I have had it for 12 years and have never had to replace a battery or reset it for the time change.

I think there are studies that indicate it is a health hazard, too.

According to a CBS report, many studies show a connection between DST and an increase in strokes, heart attacks, car accidents, work place accidents, lower SAT scores, Deer strikes, and more depression. Sounds like DST may be a health hazard.

It increases profits for companies, though.
