I have the canon 7d and a 300mm f/4 L lens. Should I add the canon 1.4 extender?
If you want/need a 420mm 5.6 it's a less expensive way to get there.

With the Canon 7D you are already at 480mm. Do you want to go to 768mm with 1 less stop of light (5.6)?
A very good question Toolman, pretty much sums it up.
It sounds like a no brainer.

With the Canon 7d he
still has a 300mm lens. The focal length does not change, just the angle of view. On the 7d the 300mm lens has the same
angle of view as a 480mm on a full frame camera.
