Have you noticed the new trend to cheap, silicone wedding rings? I guess if you're not sure the wedding will last, why throw a lot of money at a band of gold? A band of colorful rubbery stuff will work just as well. I see a lot of men wearing them on TV, occasionally changing the color. I wonder if the different colors are a fashion statement, or if they wear a different color for each wife.

Starting as low as $9.49.

Maybe it's significant in being flexible in marriage???

Ah, yes. That could be a secret signal that the couple is "flexible" in regard to their vows. Great idea!

Well not exactly what I was thinking, more flexible in differences of opinion.
I suppose however, it could be related to the vows themselves.

Family heirlooms for sure.

Speaking of wedding rings, my son got a tungsten carbide ring. They are impossible to cut off in an emergency where a finger is swollen and the circulation is cut off. They have to be cracked off with a vice grip pliers. I was upset with him when he bought it. I've cut off many rings due to swollen fingers, and I made sure that he knew what to say if he had to go to an emergency room to have the ring removed and some idiot wanted to try cutting it off while he was losing a finger.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that your son doesn't take all your advice?! Well, that's a first!

Interesting video. I'm surprised that it cracks so "easily." I wonder if they teach that in medical school.

As kids we always used the bands from Grandpa's cigars when we enacted weddings.
One time we married our cat to our dog this way. It didn’t last!

At first, I was outraged having spent thousands on a diamond engagement and two gold wedding rings. Then I thought, we've been brainwashed to believe diamonds are rare and exotic and that gold is the only material to signify our undying love and devotion. Environmentally, silicone is probably less impactful than mining and finishing diamonds and gold so why not go with it. Besides, gold is better saved for electronics and spacesuit helmets.
