Leica D-Lux 7

I am considering buying the Leica D-Lux 7 as a general-purpose walk-around camera, including for street photography? Any positive or negative opinions out there? I have heard some criticism that the camera is vulnerable to dust and dirt getting into the camera through the zoom lens, and since the lens is not interchangeable, cleaning the sensor involves sending it out for an expensive maintenance. Is that anyone's experience? Otherwise, what are your thoughts?

Thank you.

My thought? The lens zoom range is a bit limited for me.

I own one and it’s good for travel for its size and weight and IQ for a point-and-shoot. For the dust issue I bought a camera case ever since I used it.

I believe the range is 24-70mm (full-frame equivalent). While I agree that this is not a large range, it is a fairly typical range for many camera systems. Anything broader would make the camera larger, and the lens not as fast. Thanks for your comment.

I forgot the name of the seller. They're on-line.

I'd buy the Panasonic DC-ZS70 that has a great Leica lens that has all the range you'd ever
want, which is 24 mm to 720 mm

Zoom lenses ingest dust when operating the zoom, drawing air into the lens as it changes length....some lenses more than others. A case won't help, but that it a nice case.

I carry a ZS70 with me on (almost) all of my bike rides. It’s a good little worker, even tho soft at the long zoom (no surprise there, after all). Only grumble is the focusing system. Seems to have a mind of its own. Also own a Canon PS G1x iii that has a APS-C (1.6 crop factor) sensor and 24-70mm equiv lens. With the larger sensor, the lens isn’t the brightest to keep the camera’s size down, but it’s a marvelous little camera. Initially, Canon wanted more than $1000 for it, which was over the top. Now, you get a refurb from Canon direct for $500-$600. Sweet…. and tho some would think the zoom range too restrictive, I found the vast majority of my travel shots were around 50-70mm.

I have the D Lux type 109. One generation older. Same lens and no issues after extensive use. It is a great travel and street camera.
