I know the majority of today’s photographers prefer the electronic copy, especially in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format, but I would like a printed manual.

Print copies are available on eBay, but they are printed on 8.5”X11” paper – the manual format appears to be 5.51”X7.78”. In addition to the paper size, I would also like to select the paper for the cover and pages as well as the binding -- considering cost options.

I took the file to an office supply store, but they would not print it.

I have manuals for my cameras they came with the camera, However I have downloaded and printed with larger text specific parts of the manual to carry with me.
That way I can see to read what I want plus my original manuals don't get damaged.

A modern approach for these modern times.

I have used OTC Ltd. many times and am very happy with the manuals. Try sales@otcWorld.Co.uk It takes about two weeks but is worth the wait. I always get the spiral bound. Good luck.

I’ve had my camera manuals printed and spiral bound at Fedex/Kinko’s.

I did my Canon 60D manual on the photocopier at work. Resized to A4, much easier to read and to use once in a loose leaf binder. Gave it away with I sold the camera.
My newer Canon 6D mkII manual I got from a Canon Specialist, two volumes on A5 spiral bound.
If you've got a Canon these people may be worth a look -

Most of the time I just use a pocketbook, A6 and 40 pages. Covers 99% of the stuff I need to know. From the same people.

Not only would printing the downloaded manual be a violation of copyright law, it would be quite expensive! Making a one-off copy of ANYTHING is expensive.

Copy shops charge by the page. Printing an 800+ page manual for a typical new camera would be quite pricey — as much as $.25 per page!

I don't know anyone who would print a single copy of a 5.51”X7.78” document, with custom paper cover and binding, at a reasonable cost.

Printing manuals that size is usually done on large sheet-fed litho presses, in large quantities of multi-page signatures that are printed on both sides, in a page order that becomes consecutive when the press sheet is folded, bound with other signatures, trimmed on three sides, and then glued or sewn into a cover. Local office quick printing shops don't do that sort of thing. They print on sheets of 8.5x11 inch or 11x17 inch paper (USA standards), and use spiral or GBC binding to hold the pages together. They use the same sorts of equipment you would find in a large corporate office, typically large xerographic or electrostatic printers or copiers with digital raster image processors attached to them.

In short, you could probably buy a used iPad for less than it would cost to get a rather unwieldy and illegal copy of a PDF camera manual. PDF files are generally searchable and much easier to use than paper ones.

I printed mine with my printer (you decide color or BW), took it to FedEX and had it spiral bound with a clear plastic cover and a sturdy back. I have done that for several camera manuals, D5 and D850 as well as several camera e-books from Steve Perry.

The primary reason for manufacturers don't give you manuals any more because few people read them.

Around 20% of the population will read at least some of their manuals. Many, however, will chuck the box, camera strap, manual, and paperwork in the trash as soon as they open it.

Most people will skim through the manual for a few minutes, decide they don't have time, and put it in some place they can never find it. Some think it's too big and heavy to stuff into a camera bag.

At least with a PDF, you can keep it on your smartphone, computer, or tablet and read it when needed. All my manuals are in Apple Books, accessible from my iPhone and Mac. I'm always near one of those devices.

So yes, few people read paper manuals. The other reason Manufacturers quit printing them is to eliminate printing expenses and to reduce shipping costs. Manuals add size, bulk, and weight to the packaging of cameras. Printing is an expense that adds little value to the camera when a perfectly good searchable PDF is available online. Without PDF downloads available, printed manuals would still make sense.

Like it or not, folks, printed documents are dinosaurs.

Anyone who has read multiple camera manuals from the same manufacture will note they're pretty much all the same. Yes, new / changed / unique features are discussed with new material. But, everything that is common is common across all manuals, model after model after model. Same text, same diagrams, same example pictures. Read a few if you somehow maintain doubt.

What camera? Most manuals now have so many pages they would be extremely unwieldy, especially at standard manual page sizes.

A manual is something you want with your camera at all times. Books are generally inconvenient for that.

As is a printed manual.
