$6.00? You're hired! I'll even add a couple of bucks for driving time!

And you're so close. A little over an hour away! Excellent!

The topic of generic vs OEM batteries came up again yesterday. That encouraged me to do a search. You can buy two generic EN-EL 15b batteries with a charger for $33. Or, see below for other battery prices. Yes, I realize that the construction of each is different, but still.

Well living in the mountains of NY I would think that the significantly higher “cold cranking amps” of the Exide battery would be of importance to you for taking outdoor photographs. 😀

Assuming that I go outside in cold weather.

600 feet! Gimme me a break! That's not even a warmup for me.

Speaking of cold, if Canon gets their liquid cooled processor working, would you need to fire up the camera and let it idle and warm up while you drink coffee before taking any shots?

For a long time I wasn’t fond of third party batteries. My biggest fear was if they leaked, the acid would ruin the contacts requiring factory service. The availability of Original Equipment manufactured batteries has waned since mirrorless cameras have breached the surface. I reluctantly bought a third party battery. I do take it out of the camera when I put it away.

I would like that battery setup for my wife to use for her IWatch! When do you think they will have a battery for that?

You can just buy the battery.

Leaking is rarely if ever a problem with Li-Ion batteries. Swelling can be an issue, making it nearly impossible at times to remove it from the camera. Even that is relatively rare.

Prices for Nikon branded DSLR accessories will go up as the volume drops, similar to the Nikon branded XQD cards. I bought one and then no more as the prices went out of sight.

At this point I wouldn't buy a new Nikon EnEl15 if I needed a replacement. These days you can buy a used D7xxx along with a handful of Nikon branded EnEl15 batteries and chargers.

Also, Amazon relative pricing has gone up across the board. Walmart has the Nikon EnEl15 for $50.

Edit:
If I was going to try a 3rd party battery it would probably be the one made by NiteCore. They make great accessories and their EnEl15 compatible battery is only $35 and has a larger capacity than OEM.

The Nikon is actually less expensive because the Exide also requires jumper cables, a voltage transformer and a hand cart in order to use it with your Nikon. It probably does have longer life though. That's important if you are tracking man-eating tigers through the jungle. Who would want to miss the shot of those jaws coming at them because their battery died?

Better for the battery to die than the photographer.
