When I got my current laptop with no cd I thought I was finished with my beloved Photoshop CS5. I did still have it on my desktop. All my Adobe software is registered. CS5 was way out of date, but I called Adobe and asked if there was anything they could do. They gave me a link where I could download the program ... no charge. I still have it, and it works fine.

At a later date I was on my desktop using CS5 when it locked up with a message I was using illegal software. I called and the first tech I spoke to took about 5 minutes to recognize the issue. When they gave me a new ID for the laptop, the ID on the desktop wasn't changed. A few minutes later they gave me the proper ID and both computers still run CS5.

I made the calls very late (eastern US) and never had a long wait.

BTW - this was long after all CS programs were discontinued.

Thank you for letting me know that. I am still using Ps CS6 on my desktop tower. I have a dvd/cd drive in it. I used the same program disc on my old pc and later new pc. I deactivated Ps on the old machine before discarding the unit. I also kept the two HDDs and converted them to external archive use. But that is a complete different issue.

Good luck on that. I heard that Adobe shut down their validation servers on old software so you cannot validate old software. You will get to a certain point and you will not be able to go forward in the install. That is just what I heard, I don't use Abomination software.. I mean Adobe software so don't quote me on that.

That's not nice of them!

I've been using Quicken 2007 for years, moved to four computers.
Upon each install it wants to register, on-line, by modem......
Luckily I can say "later" and after maybe half a dozen starts, it gives up asking.

Here is the thread on adobe site, farther down it talks about CS6 as well.

Again. I don't use Adobe so the OP would need to talk to someone who has done this but I heard a long time ago that the validations servers closed down and you can't install the software anymore. But again. Don't quote me on that.

I have Elements 14 and 22, but won't buy anything else from them.

Hope this isn't too far off the usual subjects.

I'm upgrading to a newer laptop which doesn't have an installed CD disc drive to load my Adobe CC3 or PS Elements from original program discs. What are my options? Buy a portable disc drive and connect with USB cable to my laptop? Or use my desktop to copy the program CDs to thumb (flash) drives that can plug into the laptop. Is that possible?

I know the preferred method is to download from online, but that's not available to me, so I'm looking for the easiest solution to move my photo editing programs from the old laptop to the new laptop.
Hope this isn't too far off the usual subjects. b... (show quote)

If anyone would read his post all the way through you would notice the internet is not available to him or is too costly where he is at.

You are correct. Unfortunately, many do not read and/or understand, or do not check all the posts before answering! (redundantly)

Which, almost always, can be done after installation, (At least that's been my experience) unless it is no longer supported, then it's wallet time.

And as Jerry says, it's progress.

Make that "progress?"

Yes, I believe the spelling of that word should be updated to include the quotes in pretty much all cases.

He better get it somehow because old programs or new, they need internet validation most often. (not always)

I use my cell phone to download programs to my laptop or phone and then transfer them to a desktop or laptop.
Most software requires a connection to the internet to validate now days, so network is required. If you have no internet and cell service, hope you have a laptop to drive into town with to get your software downloaded and validation.

I agree. Amazon has them for as little as $14.

Remember when the first generation of CD players came out? Before DVD's.
$800.00 and you needed a host of plastic CD carriers because they couldn't except a raw CD.
OH, and they were single speed drives for $800.00.

Yes, I saw the Pioneer laser disk in Audio Den in Lake Grove, NY.
It had some picture, but I could see the problem with it.
I could see a slight amount of jumpiness I couldn't live with.
Yep, Napster. Never got into that. Don't remember why.

I remember. I put a brand new 8 track in my ‘55 Chevy Panel Truck. It cost most of my two week paycheck to buy it.
