I am using a canon 60D and take a lot of nature photos. I have an Epson artisan 1430 wide format printer. I understand that you can print on canvas with this printer. I really want to give this a try. Anyone have any experience with this or advice. One thing I have found on line is that I should use photo black ink. Does it make a difference. Any advice or resource would be greatly appreciated.

Although many printers say they are fine for canvas printing, the thicker stock sometimes messes up the printer. Then there is the cost of ink, mistakes etc and cleaning of rollers afterwards sometimes. With the cost of canvas so low now compared to what it used to be, I would suggest sending it off to a lab and have them do it for you.
Hi Bill,
I've printed on canvas and had very good results. My printer is not able to print as large as I'd like to but those I've done, (8 1/2 x 11) are very impressive on canvas... especially landscapes. Give it a try. I use HP ink and an completely satisfied with it for photos.

You have an HP printer? What model is it? I just bought a 7520 Photosmart and would like to try that. Does it seem hard on the rollers?

Guys... don't forget that the printing part is just the first step. With canvas you then have to buy and have it stretched onto stretcher bars or have it glued to some backing board. It is not like a paper print that can easily be put into a mat and then framed. That is why it is in the long run more expensive to do the print canvas yourself thing.

I know there are the added steps of stretching to a frame, etc. For me it is another step in seeing how far I can go with this as a hobby. I know the printer is capable of doing canvas, I was looking for any hints or need for special inks. I appreciate the responses and look forward to just going a little farther. Thanks again and I will continue to look for any other ideas.

Does your printer feed straight down from the back or from below in the front. My fav printer feeds from below and has to "wind" around. Wonder if it would still work.
PS...you can buy "canvas paper" for ink jet printers.

Hi Amy,
Yes, and it seems to be a rare breed now. It's one of HP's last models that also prints directly on CD & DVD's. Excellent printer in my opinion. It's a Photosmart C5550. I switched from an Epson that used six cartridges and get equally as good color prints from the HP. I highly recommend it, IF you can find one still available. I do a lot of printing to DVD and tried to pick up a second printer like this one, but find it's pretty rare, and the price seems to be elevating instead of dropping.
Hi Holly, yes, it's the canvas paper I'm using.
Red River Paper has a 60lb. Paper Canvas. Its not a true canvas but a mix. It gives you the feel, texture and look of canvas. You still need to use a stretch frame. Just make sure you use the proper printer profile and you get good results. I wouldnt say it used allot more ink but it was a little more, the print profile will take care of it. I use a canon 9500pro and no problems with it. Bottom line give it a try with the right picture you will be pleased.
Amy, sorry... I made a typo in my earlier message. My printer is a C5580.
Holly, the canvas paper I have is Avery, textured canvas #3277
Works great on my HP.
