Don't discount West Virginia. I take a fall foliage trip each year and have been to Colorado, Vermont, Maine, the Carolinas, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, and Tennessee. So far the best fall color I've ever seen has been in the Adirondacks of New York, and West Virginia. The shot of the Mill was taken ten years ago this week and I have a cabin booked for this weekend in Babcock State Park, WV. It will be my 4th visit there.
A dazzlingly beautiful composition ๐๐๐๐๐ - but was that the ogre of the falls doing his dastardly work in the mid-foreground of this shot

Wow!!! This is damn good. Is it on your wall? It should be.
Thank you! I haven't made a print yet, but remember, it was only ten years ago!
Would like to see more posts of fall colors.
I don't usually post images on UHH,...... but just photographed these a few days ago so here you go.
Not from the local you mentioned Ed but taken this week from the blueberry barrens here in down east Maine,...hope you enjoy my neck of the woods as they say.
All were taken using a Nikon D810 with various focal lengths, polarizing filter on a tripod using manual settings.
I use a lot of old glass, enameled metal, manual settings and such,...old school like when I took up photography back in the early 1960's.

There are times we get the big blaze of color, but if I concentrate on the smaller picture I usually find something I like every year. This is a JPG out of a Nikon D5500 with a Tamron 16-300. ISO around a thousand as was the shutter speed and aperture f5.3. A little bump in the contrast but no other pp... nice colors, just a smaller subject.

New England is spectacular this year due to cold nights and warm days in September/October as well as the heavy spring rain which caused massive leaf growth on trees. I am in the Hudson Valley and haven't taken photos due to arrival of second dog and difficulty handling camera and two leashes. Almost peak at this writing...google Hudson Valley Fall Colors perhaps? No guarantee for next year tho...depends on a lot of variables in weather.

every year I chase; week too early, week too late, too dry this year, too wet this year, etc. just came back from a weekend trip to UT. The UHHer who posted and talked about the Mt Nebo Scenic Byway was right on; never knew about this road until the UHHer mentioned it. Hit it just right - thank you

I did a google on "best fall foliage in Utah" and the first thing that popped up was "The Nebo Loop between Payson and Nephi".
The vast landscape, incredible rustic environment, and majestic hills and mountains are great images of Autumn.
If, however, you are not travelling, otherwise encumbered, not have enough time to get out to the ideal locations on time. The full colour shows up in unexpected places- you'll find them if you are observant and willing to explore your own neighbourhood, workplace, or who knows?
It's great if you can find the right location at the peak of the colour change. Last year I missed it and when I got to my favourite locations the trees were bare. This year, I still have a chance if the weather holds out but just in case, I shot some colour on a construction site I was documenting, on the neighbour's lawn, a display at the supermarket. not all trees and leave but Autumn has other unique colours.
