WTF is wrong with these people, was the last pandemic not enough now they want to screw around making something much more deadly? I thought that gain of function was outlawed by the Obama Administration. I am pretty sure that the American people overwhelmingly do not support this dangerous research, but this is what happens under top down government as we now have in this country.

Researching viruses and diseases in general has been an ongoing thing even as far back as great breakthroughs like smallpox immunization and treatment for rabies. The work on Ebola has lead to a vaccine is a very positive example. Ebola in the USA with mass transportation could make the USA and world in general an historic "lost civilization."

However, this claim has not been verified, nor has the study been peer-reviewed.
As the article you referenced states:
“When it’s just one result, you always want more data, more studies, more samples to confirm it and rule out a laboratory error or a methodological problem,” he said.
There was the potential for a false positive due to the virus’ similarities with other respiratory infections.
