Good computer for photography -- this seems too good for the price, what am I missing?

RAM DDR5, 1 TB HHD, 512 gb. SSD, Intel 770 graphics card, and the processor speed is showing at 4.9 GHz. This exceeds the speed of some i9 computers by nearly double and is faster than almost all the computers listed between 1400 and 4000 dollars. The price they are showing is 1070.99. How can they sell a computer with the latest i-core, 32 gb. of DDR5, and two hard drives for that price? I must be missing something!

The one thing I don't like is the graphics card.
Intel does not support CUDA, and most AI software relies on that.
I'd go with a Nvidia card... at the very least a GTX 1060 with 3GB GDDR.

The expression, "Strike while the iron is hot" comes to mind. It would cost more than twice that price now, with just a 1TB HDD.

Intel 770 I believe is integrated graphics. Not a dedicated graphics card. I haven't looked at Dell in a while but didn't know Dell made an XPS model without a dedicated graphics card.

DDR4 to DDR5? Not much improvement. 8 gigs to 16 gigs? With some applications = a lot of improvement. You're wasting money.

I would build my own and get what you want for less.

You can watch youtube videos on how to build a computer. It is easy not like the old days.
If you can use simple tools like a screw driver and a socket wrench you can build a computer. It is even easier now days because there is no cd drive or spinning drive.

If you are not interested in building your own computer there are business that put together computers to your specifications for you. Or have base models that you can edit.

If you have a microscenter near by.

Price seems about right.

I recently got an Alienware with 16gb; Ryzen 7 5800, 1TB SSD, and Radeon RX 6600XT for about $1100-1200 (including tax). Sales come and go.

The most important hardware items for a fast computer these days are:
A M.2 SSD. These things are blazing fast and actually reduce the need for a lot of RAM(more than 16 gigs) if you get a large one. 1TB goes for less than $100. Just purchased one that read over 4 gb per second.

With a lot of computer programs for photo work going to AI, A really good graphics card with 8 gigs or more of memory will help out.

You should read the Amazon reviews (1-3 stars) before buying this thing. No HDMI port. No dual monitors without an adaptor. Proprietary components inside that the user can't replace. Weak power supply which pretty much precludes adding a dedicated graphics card. No SD card reader. Think about it.

These are some of the reasons I have for staying away from Dell computers.
They are too proprietary with their components.
And they have been this way from the beginning of their manufacturing.

Look at laptops made by Lenovo, especially the ThinkPad Extreme1 series. I agree with others who have stated that you will likely need a video card with at least 4 GB of memory for photo processing software and a minimum of 16 GB RAM. 32 GB is much better.

I built me a computer a four months ago, it is an i7 12700, 64 gigs of Patriot 4000 DDR4 ram, MSI socket 1700 motherboard, I had everything else and it is fast. You will not see much, if any, significant speed difference with
DDR5 ram. The price of the Dell 8950 looks like a great deal, but the one I saw with the better specs is around 1800 dollars, good luck.

I have 32 GB of RAM; I almost never use over a quarter of it processing with ON1 2023. I don't think I ever have used over a quarter of it on anything, and I have a sidebar program which tells me EVERYTHING going on in my computer, real time!!! I do have an older - but decent - NVIDIA GPU with 4 GB, which I'm sure helps. I suppose there are programs which will benefit from more RAM, but apparently not one of my MANY falls in that category.

I have the 8940. Desktop is less pricey than laptop. Great performance and service.

Why not buy more DDR4 RAM, DDR5 will not fit your PC.

Looking a bit further into your situation, I see HP Envy computers (same processor) on Amazon which have big monitors and SSD drives - and big prices. The key is that they still are using DDR4 RAM, and some are using the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 - which is the same video card I chose, balancing very good performance and reasonable price. You can add that card (with 4 GB on-board RAM) and 8 GB of DDR4 and have a machine which should perform very well. I doubt you will need more than the 16 GB RAM, and DDR5 would perform only marginally better - you probably couldn't tell the difference. Get the performance you want and save your money for something worthwhile!
