I have the Samsung S22 ultra that has 108mp for the camera. It's ok to shoot when out and you don't have your camera with you. Yes people look at the pics and say wow that's really good but when they see the pics my D850 puts out they surely see the difference. If knowing I'm going to snap pics I grab my D850 if I'm in a hurry and want to capture the image my phone can satisfy.

This subject will never die. The way I see it, a camera is a device for capturing light. The more light (signal) and the less interference (noise) the better the result. A bigger sensor will always get more signal than a tiny one. Granted, those cell phone cameras have improved. A lot. But still if you want REAL booming bass you get much better results with a big woofer and lots of energy at the lower frequencies. Same thing here. It is just basic physics. The more signal the better. I still have my Olympus 4/3 and really want to go Full Frame. Why? More light. More signal. Better results. All sensors have a noise floor and getting well above that level is still very desired as I still see it.

Granted - cell phone cameras are VERY convenient and easy to carry. It is always there. But because of that tiny sensor - a must for packaging reasons - the limitations will always be there no matter how much AI or megapixels you throw at it. Just pure physics.

So maybe it is still old school but for good images use a device designed for making quality images - a REAL camera.
And it is still a big truth that good glass will always be a big part of the equation. Cheap lenses make for cheap and limited results no matter how good or large the sensor. It is the whole package. But the photographer has the final say. Better dedicated equipment, properly used will always yield better results. This is my 2 cents.

cells are handy, but with a lens smaller than a penny and a chip the size of your little finger nail they'll never be as good as even an average camera, great to have on hand for quick videos and such.

I would not say NEVER! The cell camera is continually getting better and better. I have seen some very nice photos created with the cell camera. I have several hanging in my home.

Cellphone cameras have already taken the place of someone that just wants a camera for an occasion such as a vacation or graduation, now taking a picture of something is common. But I don't think they will take the place of high end cameras or satisfy people that are in to photography

I used to shoot film, then Digital, then Mirrorless, and now, IPhone 13 Pro Max. Lately, my IPhone seems to be satisfying me quite nicely. :-)

Exactly ...my brother and I have S22 ULTRAS..,that's all he carries .., as do I .., Hasn't picked up his DSLR in two years .., we always banter back and forth about my carrying my D850 and him his S22 Ultra .., which he is a master at using it , far better than I am .., , but when it comes down to comparing shots cell vs my D850 .., HE RETREATS , and says " well mine are pretty good" anyway ...I know I can't compete with your big camera ...

There are exceptions ........I went to a friends wedding where no cameras were allowed as they had three pros there and said cell phones were allowed ...well .., I shot 750 shots of the entire ceremony as they had rented the entire beach and surrounding area at Koolina Oahu including security at the beach and access points ...

long story made short .. the wedding couple used tons of my shots which I had post edited ..

I agree.
I tire with folks who downplay smart phone photography because they paid $1M for their current camera.

There is one thing a cellphone camera can not match the shutter speed of a Mirroress or APC camera. I have used my cellphone camera and when it comes to fast sports oranyother fast moving photos a cellphone shutter lags 2 seconds behind after you press the button. Sometimes I either miss the shot or get to much of a lead. As soon as the cellphone camera comes with a 1/500th shutter speed or higher settings it will match the quality or a Mirrorless camera.

Take a look at most photos on this site....in most cases (including mine) a cell phone will suffice. When I use the term, "suffice" it is on purpose...the notion of sufficing, meaning to get by or acceptable. People, like me, weigh the benefits and detriments of all camera gear...sensor size, weight, etc. Which is why I shoot m43 gear. That slide is being pushed towards cell phones because of convenience, quality and drastically increasing tech excellence. As a good example, my wife caught this on her iPhone 12 while we were in Morocco...it may well be one of the better shots taken for our collection...I carried m43 gear and heavy pro lenses...I may not do that for the upcoming trip to Egypt. I did edit this shot a bit and may do some more editing to bring out the grain in the sand. But it was a decent capture up front. Does it suffice? That and more. Is it a Nikon Z9 with high end glass capture? No...but would one have had their heavy camera ready to shoot in this case after hopping off a camel ride? Probably not. Does it capture a memory and a good photo? I think so.

If shutter speed is your issue, you probably need to update your phone, or perhaps get an aftermarket app to control the camera.

My IPhone 13 Pro will shoot 10 FPS in burst mode. If I slide the shutter button to the left it will continue to shoot in burst mode as long as I hold the shutter button. You can then just review the frames in the Camera Roll to pick out the stop action shot you want.
