I agree with that - we don't buy produce there because we probably won't be able to use it up (only two of us and we are 77 and 80). And we live in an apartment and don't have a big freezer. But still, there are a lot of things we buy there that will last almost forever. My biggest question is - why do they have so many things that are 7.17 ounces or 16.47 ounces? Who decided that was exactly the right size??? Not just at Costco, but in supermarkets as well. Costco is good about telling you on the sign what the price per ounce is but many people don't read that. They are on their phone trying to figure out the best buy when it is right there in front of them.

Agreed - XX.17??? XX.47???
Why not just round it off.

They are portioned in metric for the rest of the world and we get weird amounts in imperial. Like bottled water that's 16.9 ounces because that's half a liter for the rest of the world.

Products often have both the metric and imperial measurements on a can/bottle/package. One or the other may be in small print. On the bottled water I buy, 500ml is that primary/obvious measurement.

Much like the now extinct 32 oz bottle of Gatorade.
Now it's a little 28 oz bottle.

Years ago Cadbury’s boasted that each bar of milk chocolate contained 1 1/2 glasses of milk.now the chocolate bar is half the size and still has the same amount of milk......must be using smaller glasses.😹🇬🇧

I know just what you mean. This is devious & deceptive advertising. Not only that, but different similar products are using different measurements so as to make it difficult for price comparisons. I notice this a lot in laundry soap too. They use several odd measurements. Give you less & charge you more & do it so (hopefully) you won't even notice. Not a great way to do business.

I know, and I hate that. Two of my favorite "hates" are three pints of ice cream pretending to be half a gallon, and the smaller can of tuna fish. I buy Stewart's ice cream because it's still a half gallon, and it's $3.69 on sale every week - well, three flavors are on sale.

When you see something like "14.27 ounces" on a package, you know they're out to get you. I'm sure they fought to keep from putting the weight on packages.

Like a "cup" of coffee. If you watch an old movie, notice how small the coffee cups are. "7Up" originally came in a 7 oz bottle. The size of a "cup" can vary according to time and use, although 8 oz is the common standard now.

Customary cup

Coffee carafe showing gradations for measuring water (right) and brewed coffee (left) in multiples of non-standard US customary cups.
In the United States, the customary cup is half of a liquid pint.

1 US customary cup = 1⁄16 US customary gallon
= 1⁄4 US customary quart
= 1⁄2 US customary pint
= 8 US customary fluid ounces
= 16 US customary tablespoons
= 48 US customary teaspoons
= 236.5882365 milliliters exactly
= 15.7725491 international tablespoons
= 11.829411825 Australian tablespoons
≈ 5⁄6 imperial cups
≈ 8 1⁄3 imperial fluid ounces

Legal cup
The cup currently used in the United States for nutrition labelling is defined in United States law as 240 ml.[1][2][3]

1 US "legal" cup = 240 milliliters
= 16 international tablespoons
= 12 Australian tablespoons
= 8 US nutritional fluid ounces (30 ml each)
≈ 8.12 US customary fluid ounces
≈ 8.45 imperial fluid ounces

I've come across old 2 x 4s that measured 2 x 4.

Mr. Hershey kept the price of his candy bar the same, but he changed the size according to the price of chocolate. He finally had to settle on one size and adjust the price.

The number of raisins in my cinnamon-and-raisin bagels has been greatly reduced. Damn Russians, cutting the shipments of Ukrainian raisins to the Free World! 😎
