This shoot I experimented some.
Now get this I went completely with what your not supposed to do, but just for fun I tried using my D4 with 200-500 5.6 vr. On some shots otherwise D4 with a sunny sky. Night shots 70-200 2.8. I wouldn't use the 200-500 at night anymore.

You might not choose to do so again, but I thought you did a good job with getting the details out using the 200-500 @10k. Looks as if it is pretty workable with the static subject. I bet you had a bit of work to do on the moving shots!

For sure with the work, I just thought what the heck let's see what happens. Like I said after dark I won't use it again. At 5.6 the noise is very bad and even with Denoise hard to make it better.

That's the beauty of photography, you can step outside your comfy zone and try different settings, gear under varying conditions and salvage some great captures like you did. Enjoyed this set of football photo's Jules.

Nice shots. I really like #4. While it is just a static shot, it conveys emotion and the hard work due to the scuffed up helmet. Nice

There are no words for your amazing shots. Love it. I like the color guard. I shoot them all the time. The bad part is the flags usually cover all their faces. I guess there is nothing you could do about that. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Yep the flags are usually in the faces. Just to see our flag hoisted above I just have to take a shot. I have tried from the side, still no help with the faces. I will practice I promise.

I probably don't have one good honor guard photo with faces. Too bad as I love it and them. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Jules - Superb shots. Query was # 6 2.8 at night ? You really filled the frame nicely ! I agree about the 5.6 200-500 at night but how do you get the reach with the 70-200? Patiently wait for the action to come to you ? Thanks. Paul

I must be patient and wait for the action, runner, quarterback, etc. I just had to know what the 200-500 would or more important what the lens can't do. Great lens for during the day, love it for that.
Be well,
Jules
