Canon R5 damaged by Canon EF 100-400 IS?

I was using my new Canon R5 with a Canon EF-RF adapter on my Canon EF 100-400L lens, with the lens image stabilization and camera IBIS both on. After about twenty minutes of intermittent shooting (single frames) the setup started making noise as though an internal fan were running. The noise got progressively louder and then I got an Error 20 message. I turned the camera off and on and the noise started immediately, and the error message returned in a few seconds. I took the lens off and turned the camera on again, and the sensor began gyrating wildly. I sent the camera to Canon and they replaced the sensor under warranty. When the camera returned, I tested the setup again and some noise started within a few seconds. I turned the camera off, turned the lens IS off, and so far it seems to work OK with only the R5 IBIS operating. Has anyone else had problems using EF lenses on the R5? Canon does not appear to provide any official information on using EF lens IS while using the R5 IBIS.

I would inform Canon of the problem.

Explain the whole procedure to the Canon tech
I am currently using an R7 with the EF 100-400L mk2 and 1.4x III and have had anything like that happen.

While on hold during your call to Canon, review your firmware on the EOS R5. If not v1.6, perform this update.

There's also a firmware update for the EF 100-400L II lens. I'm not sure how you check that on an EOS R5, but the download files is in the support section for the lens at usa.canon.com.

Are you saying you have not had anything like that happen?

I am also using an EF 100-400L II on one of my R7's and it has worked fine, no issues...

I'm contemplating ordering an R7. I wonder if anyone has had a similar issue using Canon's adapter on the R7 with Tamron or Sigma APS lenses?

I have not used my Tamron lenses on the R7 but I have used Sigma lenses on it. I have the Viltrox EF to RF adapter.

I have been told by Tamron that some of the Tamron lenses will work with with the R cameras and some will work as is some need adjustments and some won't work. Call Tamron.

Yes, half asleep and didn't notice the wireless keyboard needed batteries.

However, being a believer in the Great Demon Murphy, let's add a YET.

I have R5, Canon adapter, and 100-400 ii. To check firmware go to the menu, wrench icon, menu number 6, click on firmware. I have R5 FW 1.5.2 and Lens FW 1.0.6 (yes I know both need updating hopefully get around to it soon.)

I have not had any problems. One time the lens would not focus and had the focus point turn red. It was because the lens was inadvertently set to limit AF 3m-infinity, and I was trying to focus close. I hate it when flipped switch or changed settings causes me to freak out.

Here is the compatibility list. If you google search update Tamron r series comparability, some of the lenses (like the 34mm )are now comparable with a firmware update.

https://www.tamron.ca/faq/canon_eos_r/

But just because it is compatable, as with all 3rd party lenses some do not work will like Tamron 150-600 G2

I'm only guessing here but I think that turning on IS on both the camera and the lens leads to each fighting the other.
