Just completed a task, sitting watching over our ducks when this Hoot Owl descended on a tree about 22 feet from where we were sitting. This was just before 4PM PDT. I did not have a camera only my cell so my wife-who is much speedier afoot than me nowadays-went for my Z9 with 500pF attached.
While we watched, a rat appeared to the bird's left-our right in some salal and blackberry. This birds finally flew off after 6 PM PDT! It stayed over two hours on three different perches. Needless to say, I took over 1300 images!
My wife and I pointed out the rat to the owl and made sure the bird knew we wanted that damn rat gone!
The owl perched for an hour on our dog run-watching and waiting for the rat to show itself.
After diving on the rat, the owl seemed stuck so I went around to backside off our run area to free the bird. Not necessary. I showed him a clear path through the blackberry and it took it!
I apologize in advance of any who may be upset over the dead rat image.
Download and enjoy!
