I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
It looks a bit like a holiday snap. A lot of my landscapes end up looking like that. If it is a holiday shot for your own personal memories then it’s fine. If you want a competition shot then you need to shoot during the ‘golden hour’ and look for more drama. Some landscape photographers visit a location numerous times to get the right conditions.

The image needs more sharpness, clarity, and color saturation. All easily done with Photoshop Elements or other relatively simple (and inexpensive) programs. The yellow in the upper right make me think that someone's finger got in front of the lens. There are too many distractions to make this a photograph of the bridge. It blends into the background and the trees on the right are a strong element. I agree with the comment that had you walked around the left nearer to the base of the bridge and caught it at an angle you might have been able to emphasize it more. From your angle it would be challenging to really emphasize it. Maybe using a telephoto and just getting part of the bridge would have been more interesting.

I just don’t seem to understand why my pictures lack that special something. Please critique. Thanks in advance.
Here is my take with crop and adjustment.

I personally think it just needs a sky replacement...
That was one of my first thoughts, too...
BUT, the reflection of the sky in the water would have to be changed too, and I think that would be a shame. Part of the appeal of this photo is that golden reflection on the water.
Composition can be tough. My advice is to take more than one view of the same scene, moving around a bit so that the elements in the frame change positions, and then study them to see which is most pleasing to you. Sometimes your gut's message is clearer than a bunch of memorized rules.

The bridge is my focal point. It was an overcast day but I liked the moodiness. When I try to translate these two ideas, the picture is boring.
Ok, I get it. There's too much going on in the image to provide a focal point. Try cropping out the tree on the right.
